Nice restaurant. Great food and service. Music is always too loud. Tables, floors, bathrooms, and chairs could be cleaner. Maybe this place needs regular deep cleaning and to smell fresher. The rest is top notch here!

We dine at The Charles a few times a year, and like the place and the selections in general; however, the preparation of the food is unfortunately not always consistant, i.e. crabcakes fried way too hard and more filler than expected, corn salad/salsa quite good, otherwise the vegetables were unremarkable. Selected brussel sprouts as an appetizer were way too big in size, too hard and not cooked enough to be enjoyed. Farmer's salad is a disappointing choice of thick cucumber...

I so want to love The Charles, however, the service starts out great and then it goes south. Our reservation was at 6:00 pm and we were anxious to make curtain across the street at 8:00 pm at the theater. My plate wasn't cleared until right before I paid my bill at 7:45 pm. The initial attentiveness was great and our server was personable and helpful but as it got busier, less so. One in our party wanted a turkey burger and it seemed that it is no longer available but still...
