Cafeteria style service. They are sometimes efficient but the food is good. If you are used to West African/Nigerian style cooking, you will enjoy it.

They do very well with catering orders too.

I tried the beef, chicken, spinach, and shrimp and cocoa bread andrum cake. They were not as flacky as I expected, but they were well seasoned and portioned. The rum cake was on point!

Food is excellent but service is slow. Staff are courteous and friendly but the slow service and lack of air-conditioning are a downside

The idikaikan that I bought is not worth it, even efo riro is better than it. No ingredients of idikaikan in the soup at all. Is just exploitative.

I placed an order yesterday morning (8/16) around 8am for large tray of jollof rice and gave advance notice that I will be picking up at 4:30pm. I was told I could pay when I pick up the order and that it should be ready. At 4pm I called and told them I would be picking up at 6:30pm instead and to be sure the food would still be ready, whoever picked up sounded like the first person I talked to and she confirmed that it wouldn’t be a problem, I believe her name was Mavis or Mavel. At 6:30 I called and told them I would be 10 min away, whoever the second woman was that picked up this phone call told me the food was not made and would not be made until after I pay for the food. Mind you I called since morning time and called again in the afternoon to confirm and nobody mentioned I had to pay in advance in order for the food to be ready, I was told I can place the order and have the food ready and pay when I pick up. I was driving all the way from falls church Virginia which is over an hour drive away. Why wait till I’m 10 minutes away to say the food was not made and I had to pay in advance. What is the point of ordering food in advance if it would not be made until I arrive? O was trying to clarify with the lady that I placed the order in the morning and that it was never expressed to me that my only option of having the food ready was if I pay in advance, and whoever that lady was on the phone (I wish I got her name) was so rude, unapologetic, condescending, and made slight remarks under her breath maybe she thought I couldn’t hear her but given that the mistake was on their end and not mine, I don’t understand why she had to be so disgustingly rude. I arrive and was told I what to wait an hour plus for them to make the jollof rice, again I’ve already driven over an hour just to get there and had to drive all the way back empty handed. I couldn’t wait and had to leave and ended up with disappointed guests who didn’t get to eat the main dish which was supposed to be the jollof rice. I have been supporting this business since they first opened when I was still living in laurel. Since I moved to Virginia a year ago, I continued to support the business. Although I’ve had other negative and disappointing moments, I remained loyal. However, after this last interaction, this was the icing on the cake for me to stop patronizing this business completely. Two of my sisters have been having similar issues and have decided to also stop going to this business after this last incident. I will no longer recommend them to anyone. It’s one thing to mess up an order but to also be rude about it took me aback. The staff needs a lesson on etiquette and customer service. It must suck for the owner of this business to know that the enemy of progress for the company is its own employees.

I can't rate the food because I didn't get it. I ordered food from the day before to be picked up in the late afternoon. Only to be told that the food isn't ready, they ran out and they're cooking more and will take 30 mins. The man said they were BUSY ALL DAY! I can't make this up. How does that happen. I guess the food is that good. However, the service is very poor nonetheless. To the point I will not be spending my money there.

On August 4 I called Kingsway three times. The third time they picked up. I wanted to see if they had fish stew. The lady on the phone sounded annoyed and said yes. I drove there within ten minutes and waited in a long line only for the cashier to say no.

I am just so disappointed yet not shocked by the poor services provided by Kingsway Cafe! On Thursday, August 8 I called to place a catering order for 2 pm. This was a time set by them! On August 10th I came in at 3:05 to get my order knowing that my order would be late because they never provide catering orders on time! I was overhearing them say that they hadn’t had an jollof! After paying the remaining balance the cashier said the food was coming. In fact every time I asked he kept saying it’s coming! He would not report the fact that there was no jollof! After about 45 minutes of waiting I spoke with the manager! He too said it’s coming! After more time he finally came to me and said the Jollof would be ready in 35 minutes. More than 35 minutes passed and I was still waiting! I didn’t get my food until 4:50!

I know nothing will be done about this, but it must be known because this is not ok!!

Update: After refrigerating the stewed chicken and reheating, it was determined that the chicken was spoiled. A full tray of spoiled chicken.

I have become a fan and changing my review. portions are much larger, more "proteins" in orders and most interestingly, they have become environmentally conscious in a quite classy way! The paper containers they chose are awesome.

Try them out.

I was not a fan before.

I drive 45 mins to come here as it's the only place I've liked for African food. I was disappointed today because I ordered jollof rice and it has a burnt taste to it. I'm not for sure if it's part of the ingredients, like maybe a smoke flavor or something, as this was my first time having it there.
