My coworkers and I ordered lunch from here. I had the sweet and sour chicken lunch special which came with rice and an egg roll. It was good Chinese takeout food. Prices are decent for lunch specials as well. It was very filling as well.
We placed an order for two General Tso chicken platters with shrimp fried rice.
There was a $5 up charge per platter for the shrimp fried rice which we agreed to, because Mandarin House used to be our go-to years ago. Since we were already in Laurel, my mom and I figured we’d treat ourselves to something nostalgic.
I went in, paid, and whew… rude awakening.
The food was nothing like we remembered. The shrimp fried rice was dry, and not worth the extra $10 we paid. The General Tso chicken didn’t come with broccoli or peppers, which is usually a standard part of the dish at most Chinese restaurants. Tasted like sugar balls. Did we order candy??? The egg rolls were hard like they’d been sitting under a heat lamp way too long.
And on top of all that? We didn’t smell anything on the ride home. Not even a whiff. Most Chinese spots fill your car with that delicious aroma this didn’t even register.
My mom called and was told the place has been under new management since 2019.
Yeah… that explains a lot.
$50 wasted in this economy for what used to be a favorite. Sadly, we won’t be back.
Mandarin House WAS the number one Chinese restaurant in Laurel. The General TSO chicken and shrimp fried rice was so bad that I called to ask if they were under new management. The rice was so bland. They had a nerve to charge 5.00 extra. The general tso had no 🌶️ peppers, no broccoli 🥦 etc.
I was told that they were under new management since 2019. Should have changed the name.
Think twice before you call. Very expensive and we had no problem with that, because the food use to be so good.
Goodbye Mandarin House. We drove 30 min for nothing.

Friday was the first and last time I ordered food here. It seemed like the food had been premade earlier in the week and simply reheated for my order. The egg rolls were extremely hard, the fried chicken wings smelled bad and tasted stale, and the fried rice was hard, not fresh, and downright disgusting. Do not come here if you value good food.

Some friend took Us to Mandarin House in the early 90's. From then to 2009 (moving out of state), it was our Go-To place for incredibly delicious Chinese food and always a big hit with whoever We took there. If I had any complaint, it might be that the dish was blander than I expected, although still good. ALWAYS top rate service and food! We were visiting family and friends in Maryland last week and made it a point to sop here for lunch. I had the General Tso lunch special (with Pork Fried Rice and an egg roll) that was as good as I remember while my wife went for her usual, Eggplant With Hot Garlic Sauce. We took takeout to go with Us: Chef's Spicy Crispy Shrimp, Morengo Delight and for the "kids" (daughter and her husband), it was Happy Family and Chef's Spicy Crispy Beef. All sumptuous. Their prices have gone up (but sadly, whose has not the last few years?), but the portions are filling and our usual server "Carlos" was as cool as ever. Almost every Chinese restaurant that We have gone to has gotten "It's good...but it's not Mandarin House". Overlook the Strip Mall exterior and enjoy Your food.

Their lunch specials are my fav. Try the chicken with string beans - it's my go-to. Their general tso chicken is really good too!

Imagine being a regular customer here, and you place an order…and YOU ask for an EMPTY bowl to eat your food in and they CHARGE you for an empty bowl. She charged a $1.75 for an empty bowl and I had placed an order and also come here regular. Way to go for showing how much they show they appreciate their customers. Also they charge extra for the egg or extra beef when you ask for it and then actually NOT put it. I’ve slowly become disappointed overtime. This is not the way. They act cheap for what?! Can’t even give a regular customer an empty bowl. It really is the principle.

Visited this establishment on a short visit w/ natives to the area and OMG! Service very pleasant. Be mindful this is an older building and in a strip mall, however the food was fantastic, fresh served hot, simple delicious! And the cocktails hit too!

Ordered $50 worth of food. Unfortunately all was dry, bland, over fried, or oily. Crab Rangoon over cooked and dried out, sesame chicken tough and dry, fried rice seemed like it was days old and dry, chicken lo mein and Szechuan chicken were oily past consumption. Regret to say will not be coming back. Had high hopes from other reviewers.

The food was just average. Not bad, but not great.
