I came here once at the end of November, and this time I came from New York specifically to eat. Personally, I think it is the most authentic Chinese food I have ever eaten in the United States! Crispy squid and green vine crispy fish are recommended

Food was stale and portions were mediocre. The service was terrible and the menu over-priced. I generously gave this restaurant a 1 star because we were seated immediately upon arrival. I would never return to this clown show.

Pecking duck and its wrappings were cold. Pork soup dampling had thick skin.

LaoSze Chuan is our favorite Chinese restaurant in the Bethesda area (before that we enjoyed LaoSze Chicago every weekend). We especially love the Peking duck, green beans, and ma po tofu. Jay Chen has become our FAVORITE waiter. He is kind and courteous and gives us fantastic, and honest food recommendation. Highly recommend (perfect to host guests) (Chicago Michigan ave favorite waiters: Lori / Tram)!

Kid-friendliness: Super friendly for kids!

Really disappointing. Food was overall mediocre. "Braised Eggplant" was a mushy mess (it is battered). Duck - though the skin was crispy - it was flavorless and overly fatty. Other dishes were just "OK". The food was grossly overpriced for the quality received.

I am here now and I will definitely not be coming back. I would have been better off going to Panda Express. PF Chang is a much better experience and the waiter could not comprehend English. Had to have another server put in the order for me due to the language barrier.

I usually don’t leave reviews, but I had to come back for this one…I was here recently and it’s a really aesthetic place to eat ONLY if you’re looking for a nice looking place to celebrate. The food was above average from typical Chinese restaurants—my party enjoyed the food. Our server did a great job and was really attentive, but when we sent them to the manager to make a simple request, the manager came back with a terrible attitude. We tried not to argue with her to not draw attention, but the way she treated us made us feel uncomfortable and unwelcomed. We didn’t want to make our server feel bad because they did a great job with us, but the manager’s nasty attitude made us not want to come back despite the kindness of our server and the decent food. Im completely appalled by the behavior we encountered, especially as a very easy-going and calm party. I only give 2 stars because our server was so nice. I wouldn’t be quick to recommend this place because of the manager and her nasty behavior. If you come here, I’m sure you’ll have a better experience, as long as you don’t run into this lady.

After a brief hiatus from indulging in authentic spicy Chinese cuisine, I had the pleasure of revisiting Lao Sze Chuan this weekend with dear friends. Renowned for its fiery flavors, this establishment reaffirms its place as one of the finest purveyors of Sichuan cuisine.

Our culinary journey began with the appetizer **Sliced Beef & Tripe Sze-Chuan Style**. The dish was a solid start—salty, spicy, and packed with flavor. The tripe, in particular, stood out for its excellent texture and taste, elevating the overall experience.

Moving on to the main courses, the **Braised Pork with Abalone** presented a mixed impression. While the abalone was tender and flavorful, the pork, though visually appealing with its rich, glossy finish, delivered a taste that was merely average.

The **Boiled Duck Blood Curd Sze-Chuan Style** transported me back to the vibrant food scenes of New York City. This dish is a true standout, with its top-tier, boldly spicy flavors. It’s a must-try for fans of traditional Sichuan delicacies.

The **Braised Eggplant with Garlic and Chili** was an unexpected delight. Diverging from the classic rendition with ground pork, this version leaned toward a sweet-and-sour profile, offering a fresh and innovative take on a familiar favorite.

Finally, the **Green Peppercorn Flounder Fish Filet** stole the spotlight. This dish boasts a robustly spicy soup base that perfectly complements the tender, succulent flounder filet. While the spice level might be intense for some, it’s a flavor-packed triumph that has quickly become my new favorite.

Once again, Lao Sze Chuan has proven itself a culinary gem, delivering bold, authentic Sichuan flavors that excite and satisfy. Highly recommended for spice lovers and adventurous palates alike!

Very nice restaurant, staff is really friendly. They have a big and confusing menu but the staff does a good job explaining it. The food is great. I been here 3 times and I’m planning to come here again.

A very good Sichuan business restaurant.
Peking duck is popular and it's good. Try the lamb stew and sizzling rice seafood. For veggies, order stir-fry peapod leaves with garlic.
