Sakura Japanese Steak, Seafood House & Sushi Bar

We took our family for my daughter’s 15th Birthday to ocean city md location. On 1/13/25. That was the worst hibachi experience we have ever had. First I’ll say our waitress was great, But you pay for the hibachi show…. There was no show. He cooked the food and went. The food was not good , steak was horrible and rice was still hard so undercooked. No show. Then the waitress brings out the cake luckily the other 4 people sang happy birthday with us because no one else did. She normally goes to Tokyo steak house which always puts in a show for Birthdays definitely. For 5 of us and a $190 bill without tip we were very disappointed. We did give waitress 20% because she was very good and only one we seen there. I was really hoping for a better experience….

Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. My salmon rolls were mushy without taste. Everyone else enjoyed their food. My salmon did not taste fresh. I left most of them. The other rolls were ok.

This location needs to step up their game. It's in serious need of sprucing up. There was missing food for three customers out of eight and the overall quantity wasn't equal to other portions received in the past or compared to other patrons portions. Not an overall good experience.

Food: too salty from miso soup to salad to main dish. Fried rice: the cooked rice is under done before it’s used to make the fried rice. There is definitely no yum yum sauce in Japanese original fried rice but this place makes fried rice with yum yum sauce.
Chef: has absolutely no interaction with customers except confirming the orders. Even with confirming our order, he didn’t cook it right ( we asked for medium rare steak and it was well-done when served). He does not know how important the food presentation is in Japanese food. If I didn’t turn my plate, he’d keep piling food on my plate. Another thing was that, this chef didn’t have any regard for food cross-contamination. He was handling the raw chicken with the same cooking utensil while he was cooking fried rice and vegetables. There is a specific order of cooking different things in hibachi. Chicken is absolutely the last thing he should cook unless he change out cooking utensils.
Atmosphere: we sat right next to a family with a child about 8 years old. From the moment they got to the table, this kid had his iPad on a highest volume. No one reminded the parents to lower the volume of the kid’s iPad. Apparently, this family knew the chef who was cooking for us today.
It is a disappointment to spend that much of money for this kind of experience. I’ve been to more than enough hibachi places to know what’s good and what’s not. I actually get better quality of food and service from a less popular place in Utah than this place.
Regarding the waitress, she was good. She’s quite attentive to us. She’s the reason that I did not rate service with a 1 star rating.
Japanese food is supposed to be on a more healthy way. With the amount of salt and soy sauce used, today’s food is absolutely not Japanese. It is a wannabe.
