Yummy Italian fare and great service. We had New Years Eve dinner that was quite memorable and delicious. Highly recommend if you are in Oxford.

Disappointed. We were excited to try a new place In Oxford. Staff and owners were not welcoming. Even said we will have to move you if it gets busy. Got there at 445 and nobody was there when we left at 530. What???

Great local spot where homemade Italian is served with great pride by the owners. A regular spot for us. The chicken parm is truly amazing. I would eat here before I went to the other Italian place in oxford, if you are trying to decide. Oxford can't support two Italian places so you need to take sides and we go to pope's. They treat their regulars really well. The space can be loud with the tin ceiling but they also have outdoor seating when weather permits.

Excellent restaurant experience, really first-rate every time we go. Food is consistently delicious and never disappoints. Scott and Jean are wonderful hosts. Great authentic Italian recipes, fresh ingredients, well-sized portions, quaint atmosphere, very civilized and manageable size means you can talk at a normal level and hear all your guests. Love this place — my favorite restaurant on the Eastern Shore. Recommend without qualification.

Tidy dining room in a historic inn, focusing on Italian food, with a huge wine list. Service was prompt and with a smile, with frequent refills of fresh bread. Escargot appetizer was a hit: plentiful and tasty. Side of spinach was lovely: not overcooked, but unfortunately lacking the punch of garlic + oil flavor indicated on the menu. Veal Saltimbocca was the real winner this evening! Perfect size, perfectly seasoned, and delicious. Wish we could have said the same about Rigatoni in Vodka Sauce with Chicken, which although right-sized and fresh, was in serious need of seasoning of some sort. Very thin chicken portion tasting of "flame-grilled on metal" but nothing else, was an odd addition to an Italian dish. Serving size of the Tiramisu was huge, although the flavor hinting of orange, rather than primarily coffee and/or chocolate, was unusual; perhaps Grand Marnier was added to the customary Kahlua. We did wish that a few more wines, particularly with robust flavor profile, were available by the glass from the large wine list.

Through a weird twist of fate, my co-workers and I were looking for a place to stay and somewhere to eat in Oxford on a Tuesday night. With the Robert Morris Inn apparently closed for the night, we stayed at the Oxford Inn and dined at Pope's Tavern.Let's just say, the Prisco's have nailed it.If Pope's Tavern, which is a somewhat curious name, was in my hometown, it would possibly be the best Italian restaurant in the city...and we have a gracious plenty of them.Simply put, everything was good, everything. The calamari were fried to perfection, almost tempura style. Delicious. My co-worker, who ordered the chicken parmesan, said it was the best he had ever had. My other co-worker, who always tends to get spaghetti and meatballs when we eat Italian, said it was better than any she can remember. Finally, my linguini with clam sauce was the best I have ever had...period and end of discussion. Phenomenal. We ate at the bar, and I will cut to the quick: the bartender makes a perfect gin martini (slightly dirty). That is a more of skill than it should be, and she crushed it.As for the atmosphere, this is a cozy place with a lot of regulars (all my best to Patty and John BTW). It was very crowded on a Tuesday night, and the guy playing guitar was perfect as the ambient entertainment. It truly was a tavern in an inn, which is something we simply don't have in central Alabama. Really cool. The reason for a 4-star rating for atmosphere instead of 5-star is pretty simple, the Prisco's apparently like the color yellow a lot more than I do.

Very friendly and accommodating owners who are carrying on a family tradition! We had an excellent dinner from appetizer (calamari with marinara sauce was perfect - loved the banana pepper on the side), caesar salad, entrees, and tiramisu for dessert which had to have been the best we have ever tried! Extensive wine list with a great selection. We love Italian wines! As a nice bonus, it was Tuesday night with live entertainment. The acoustic guitarist/singer made it a very special evening. Can't wait to go back!

Very delicious food. In the cutest town Oxford and even serves as an inn. Loved the environment.

We had a nice time (despite Storm Ophelia). High Marks on Yelp. Excellent Innkeepers, fine food and wonderful service, great wine-shop and tavern, immaculate -and quiet (except for Ophelia's howling winds). Not a nicer Early American Inn anywhere we've ever stayed.

We were very surprised at how good the food is here. We split the linguini with clam sauce and it was so good I almost licked the plate. Highly recommended. Homemade pasta was perfect! We are going back again!!

Scott and his wife met us and as my wife and I had ridden bikes to the restaurant, it then began to rain. We were allowed in early and after Scott gave us towels to dry off the bikes. The food and service were very well done.

Had the best weekend staying at the inn and eating incredible meals at the tavern. The owners Scott and Jeanne are friendly and hardworking and such an asset to this charming town. The dinner menu boasts amazing authentic Italian food including delicious homemade pasta that is light enough to keep you wanting more but hearty enough to satisfy you. Brunch was wonderful as well with some of the best fresh fruit I’ve had and amazing service. Will definitely be back for more!
