The cook for this location is the rudest person I’ve ever encountered at any of the Horace locations. Another woman ordering take out also stated that he was very nasty. He even had an attitude when we didn’t know where to order when we walked in. He did speak when we came in, and when we started to try and order, he very loudly and rudely said, “YOU GOTTA TELL HIM” like we was annoying him. Before that my sister said that, “This location is doing good!” And he had an attitude about that, basically saying that the location wasn’t doing good like she made a joke. Worst customer service. He need to work somewhere where he doesn’t come in contact with people.

09/13/2024- My play sister and I stopped here after a funeral service around 1:00 pm. No lines. Plenty of parking. Clean place. Friendly staff. She ordered fried (batter) shrimp with a side of Tartar sauce! She said they were delicious! Okay. Yum.

Excellent fried catfish and whiting with virtually no excess grease. Excellent hush puppies, a bit sweet but fine with me, and with bits of corn kernels. Good collards. Green beans were overcooked IMO but that's their way with them. The dinner combos served us both lunch and dinner. No particular atmosphere (takeout only) but it was clean. Only one employee was handling everything, so it was a bit slow, but worth it.I regret being away so long since the H Street location closed. I plan to visit more regularly. They provided plastic forks without my asking for them, which they're not supposed to do anymore.

I ordered Whiting Fish a few days ago along with Mac & cheese and Hushpuppies.
The food was very good, well fried and fresh.
I think that’s the good place to order for seafood

Delicious and hearty fish & chicken platter. Cornbread was yummy. The potatoe salad was so-so. Pricing is good. 1st time at this location. I was an avid customer at the 12th & H location. I will be back.

Parking: In a strip mall. Ample parking.

Wheelchair accessibility: Slifht ramp to door.

The fish was not, at all, how i remembered it when the store was on 12th St NE. The fish smelled fishy, it wasn't seasoned at all, and i brought it home and cooked it more.....disappointing. The service was good. There was no real ambiance, one just stands and waits for one's order.

I can't say support Black business with this franchise, because it doesn't seem like Blacks do anything in there but ring up and take your order. The food is subpar. The second time ordering Mac n cheese and it needs to be removed from the menu- horrible and I'm being very nice. The fish was ok this time, catfish was delicious the first time, the whiting I got today was meh. Seemed to have cooked too fast. The shrimp, the first time I had it was soooo good. This time soooo bad. The fish, Mac n cheese and shrimp all tasted like it was warmed up from earlier. The prices are way too much for this order you call food. You told me over the phone a fish and shrimp combo would include 10 shrimp, I only received 8 room temperature shrimp and fish. Horace and Dickies is known for their delicious fish, this site gets a 0 and they need to change the name, because it's the worst. $28 for a fish and shrimp combo??. If you're craving H&D's take the ride to their Allentown location? much better there and worth the ride.

Customer service is excellent but the food was trash greens taste like water they have no flavor at all the mac n cheese should be renamed absolute garbage the fish was nice and hot and flaky but far as taste it would be perfect in an old folks home they will never get another dollar from me for food

If I had been thinking, I would have taken photos. Since it's my last time going there, you'll have to see for yourself if you don't trust this review. This place is past its prime and is coasting on the reputation of its predecessors. It's disappointing. The entire place is dirty, especially the glass doors at the entrance, the littered trash to the right side as you park your vehicle, the stained counters, and especially the bathrooms! The restrooms are disgusting. Additionally, the trees on the outside are overgrown, and the whole place could use a fresh coat of paint. It's quite sad! Unless they make some changes, this could very well be the last generation of legacy ownership, only because the fish tastes okay. I hate to see another black business go down, but they don't seem to care about anything but the money.

We ordered the whiting fish sandwich with French fries. It cones with two slices of bread (white or wheat). The whiting was hot, fresh and cooked to perfection. This location maintained the same taste as the Original H&D on H Street, NE/NW. I would frequent this location back in the early 2000s when I worked off of North Capitol Street. The portions are plentiful. My husband and I shared the fish sandwich and fries. We were left full and satisfied. Only criticism is that the fries could have been cooked crispier. Next time, I will request extra crispy. Nothing worst than soggy fries. (reason for one star deduction). Otherwise, we will definitely return. I am so glad they built this location because I live in Old Town, Alexandria. This location is less of a commute than the other locations.
