Great views and terrific service!
Maryland crab soup and Shrimp Po'Boy with fries were excellent! Cocktails were fair. They only serve steamed crabs outside. Air-conditioning is very poor inside and ceiling fans don't run, so it's a sweat box.

The Port Tobacco Restaurant, now known as PTR Waterfront in Charles County, MD, The views of the Port Tobacco River are wonderful, especially from the outdoor deck. It’s quiet, scenic, and a great place to watch the birds and the water. If you want a table with a view. I ordered a bowl of the cream of crab soup and it was expensive for how small it was. The flavor was decent, but the portion did not match the price. I’ve had bigger bowls for less at other seafood spots. The three shrimp tacos were good though. Beer selection was limited. The only good beer on the menu was Sierra Nevada, and it comes in a PVC linned can. No bottle options or other good beer. That could be improved. Service was fine. Staff checked in. The restroom smelled and had no soap in the soap dispenser container and no hand sanitizer available. Views are beautiful.
Peaceful waterfront setting. Decent tacos.
Cream of crab soup was overpriced and small.
Beer options could use improvement, Sierra Nevada available in can only. Overall, go for the views and maybe food. I’d come back for sunset on the deck.

My family took me there as i was craving seafood, the vibe was good the service was good but I was quite disappointed with the food the cream of crab didn't look like what I expected however it had yhe taste. the lump crab cake was the size of a icecream scoop on a bun the size of a HOP Pancake, no lump at all in t he cream of crab soup. I didn't want my children to nosy for this i wanted to leave but for peace sake I appreciated their efforts, I will not be back. lump is lump and backin is backfin but the price big difference my children paid the price never again. maybe for drinks by the water

We held my daughter's wedding rehearsal dinner at Port Tobacco Restaurant on 3/20/26, with approximately 35 guests. Working with Chef Debbie in preparing for the dinner was an absolute pleasure. She was very professional and extremely easy to work with throughout the entire process, making everything smooth and stress free. She planned the dinner with the care and attention to detail as if she were planning her own daughter's rehearsal dinner. She truly went above and beyond to make the evening special for us with attention paid to every detail from the dinner/dessert displays to the decorations. The food was absolutely delicious, and the decorations were beautiful! The entire rehearsal dinner was perfect and exceeded my expectations! We are so grateful for all of Chef Debbie's hard work and would highly recommend her and PTR to anyone planning a special event.

Highly recommend this place! We had not been since it changed ownership, and we went tonight and loved it. The food was great, prices were good. They have a new menu, just started today. We had the crab balls and the truffle rosemary chips (both - delicious!!), along with reasonably priced and generous drinks. We can't wait to go back.

Good food, good drinks, good vibes and the prices aren't out of control. Can't wait to get there soon for that crab dip and pretzels! I wish they were open later on the weekends tho!

Port Tobacco Restaurant offered a very calm and quiet atmosphere, which made for a relaxed dining experience. I can definitely see this being a great spot in the summer when the area is more lively and scenic.

That said, I’m reviewing this strictly based on the food. Unfortunately, the dishes we ordered were a bit underwhelming. I had the burger with fries — the fries were actually very good, crispy and well-seasoned — but the burger itself was fairly basic and lacked the flavor I was hoping for. It felt comparable to something you might get at a fast-food spot rather than a sit-down restaurant.

My partner ordered the crab cake sandwich. It was decent, but it didn’t stand out compared to other crab cakes we’ve had in the area.

I would consider visiting again, but next time I’d likely focus more on seafood-specific entrées rather than traditional American options. There’s potential here, and I’d be interested in giving it another try with a different selection.

After new management, this place is not the same. Menu is shorter but I'm sure they will rebuild as time goes one. It's still a good spot to go to.

I was looking for a restaurant that was somewhat centrally located for my family in Tidewater Virginia and Baltimore Maryland to meet in order for us to have a nice reunion meal together. I was aware of the PTR restaurant from a previous visit I had made so I felt like it was a great choice for us to meet. I was truly impressed with the welcoming sense of accommodation that I received when I initially made the reservation and then my entire family was thoroughly satisfied with the service, the setting and the meal we experienced when we met together. I highly recommend PTR to anyone who lives in Southern Maryland as well as those who would like to take a day trip for a truly enjoyable day to remember. Well done PTR!

Great atmosphere. Friendly, attentive staff. The Band: Voice 24/7, did not disappoint. Crab dip w/soft pretzel was very good. Catfish platter was to go
Will update on that later.

Ignore the reviews prior to July 2025, when the restaurant opened under new management. We arrived at 11:30 am on a Sunday and were seated right away and given the brunch menu. The waitress said that they have a different menu after 1 pm. We saw a bartender who was helping take table orders. Also a lady from the kitchen was helping out, so it seems they would be short staffed if they get a lot of patrons at once. I understand that it is a whole different crew in the afternoon. We split the French toast, a side of eggs and bacon. The French toast was average. The scrambled eggs were good and cheesy. The bacon was thick and savory. Although it was a bit chewy, I enjoyed the unusual taste. The reason I gave it 5 stars is the view. There aren't many places in Charles County that are right on the water. You would think there would be a lot more with the amount of shoreline we have.
