I visited the restaurant recently and I was disappointed with the food and their prices which are much higher than other Ethiopian restaurants. I selected their veggie platter. They charge you for the Njera that is used to put the veggies when that platter is much more expensive than elsewhere. Furthermore they charge you for the Njera that they give you along with the platter. You could taste the artificial flavors in some of the lentils and the portions were smaller compared to elsewhere. The food was in my stomach for 10 hours. I consider this place a rip off. I will not go there.

I have been to Effoi plenty of times. I truly truly loved their food, but some dishes have become a bit salty. Secondly, from the first time I have gone to the restaurant till now I can see that they treat customers differently. If you’re tsada (white) they do the most for you, they go over and beyond to accommodate your needs. Next, if you’re a regular customer especially a male , the waitresses chat it up with you and take their time. They treat their own people, especially other women as if they’re aliens. Every time I visited the restaurant with friends they’re very slow to assist us. I’m not complaining about how long food takes because I know they’re making it fresh. My main issue is how long it takes for the waitresses to even come to our table and ask us what drinks we want or to ask if we are ready to order they just stand there and watch until you say something.

We came for lunch and the place was packed but we only had to wait shortly till our table was ready. The foods were amazing!!! Best Ethiopian dishes I’ve tried so far, already craving for them back as I came home! If you’re in the area, don’t hesitate to try this place! The foods took some time to arrive but it was worth the wait! The staff helping us named Ella had the sweetest energy and informative!
Effoi was chosen because of the highest ratings above all other Ethiopian restaurants in Silver Spring. We were seated just before the Friday evening dinner crowd started to come in. The atmosphere was inviting with soft guitar music in the background, the pleasant scent of spices and incense in the air. Ella was our delightful server for the evening. She was patient and welcoming. Ella expertly described the offerings on the menu, and she made excellent suggestions. We decided on Lentil Sambusa, Effoi Salad, Awaze Tibs and Alicha Wot. All of the dishes were very flavorful, just as described. We opted for the 100% teff Injera, which was very light in consistency, but at the same time pleasantly filling. The Honey Wine paired well with our meal. Our dinner was completed with freshly ground Ethiopian coffee and popcorn. This was a relaxing and unrushed dinning experience. Thank you Ella.
