Unique and cute little Cafe in silver springs. The owner is so sweet and friendly. Their cappuccino and pastries are delicious! Definitely worth braving the construction to get to and help support a great local small business!

Coffee is great--probably the best in Silver Spring. Decor is like grandma's dining room. Owner is extremely nice. Is a community spot--every time I've been there's always someone sitting and chatting. A very warm and pleasant place to be.

Kefa cafe was absolutely fantastic. I have worked as a barista and the iced coffee was brewed perfectly. I ordered an egg and cheese on a croissant and it was absolutely delicious. Toasted to perfection. The service was great as well. Give this place a visit. A family owned gem in the neighborhood.

A nice authentic Ethiopian coffee shop, vibes and atmosphere make it feel like you're in their home. Service was superb, very nice lady. Breakfast is available and coffee is tasty, no flavors needed. The real deal here.

It can be hard to find good coffee—even at a dedicated coffee shop. I roast my own beans and have tweaked every parameter I know—water temp, pressure, grind, roast, etc.—in the pursuit of the perfect espresso shot. I know the difference, in taste, between beans from Costa Rico and Kenya. And I know that if you roast too dark, any character in the bean is increasingly replaced by the taste of charcoal.

According to the owner, Kefa Cafe has used the same local roaster for 16 years, and I know why. I’ve had some of the best coffee in the Silver Spring area here at Kefa. The beans are definitely freshly roasted and the roast level is not too dark. I can taste that I’m drinking Ethiopian beans. Delicious!

I also love the atmosphere here for its homey feel. (Many expensive coffee shops emphasize what I might call a pretentious decor; you won’t find that here.) Great treats as well.

Kefa Cafe is a gem in downtown Silver Spring!

Please visit this lovely place! It is open even though there is construction all around it. Quiet and charming place to get a little work done.

The best espresso I've ever put in my mouth. I've done coffee tastings around the world, including Italy. I know what I like: Usually it's been a medium roast, Costa Rican bean brewed as espresso with a little sugar to cut some of the acidity (that's me.) When I tried their Three-Continent Blend (medium roast) espresso, I was in heaven! Costa Ric-who? The acidity is just right and gives very pleasant fruity notes. The aroma, taste, texture and finish are all exemplary of what a cup of coffee should be.

The fact that they're a local shop serving locally roasted beans--the beans that I buy every two weeks are one or two days out of the roaster!--is a dollop of steamed milk on top!

Also, the owners are truly wonderful people who make the experience of visiting worth going back as often as you care to. It really is a local place that supports and is supported by the community. And they have satellite locations in the Wheaton Library and Silver Spring Rec Center. (Yes, coffee at the library.)

Disappointing Experience at Kefa Cafe I recently visited Kefa Cafe at Wheaton Library, and unfortunately, it was a frustrating experience. I simply asked for an empty paper cup and was willing to pay for it. The server told me it would be $2.93! I laughed at how absurd that was, and she confirmed it – $2.93 for an empty cup. Seriously? The staff was not friendly at all, and I felt like they were quite intimidating. Their prices are extremely high, reminding me of another Starbucks-style setup with a massive markup. The coffee isn’t special enough to justify those kinds of prices. Just down the street, I can get a 20 oz Colombian Reserve coffee for $1.58! There’s no way the beans they’re using at Kefa Cafe are worth the price they’re charging for a small cup. If Kefa wants to be a part of the community, they need to rethink their pricing strategy and customer service. $2.93 for an empty cup is just ridiculous. I asked 7-Eleven for the same thing, and they told me an empty cup is also $2.98 I'm speculating an empty paper cup only cost about 1 cent! and I was willing to pay .25 cents, this is just out of hand. Honestly, I’ll just stick to making my own coffee at home from now on. The experience was frustrating and left a bad taste in my mouth.
