Food is decent but service is terrible and I was very put off by the hidden 20% service charge for our 2 party table and the waitress standing there waiting for me to sign. I typically tip well but feel service workers should get a living wage and the restaurant should not charge a separate service charge.
Got take out and was disappointed. The enchiladas were so underwhelming, the lack of flavor made me not even finish the first one. The Pollo en crema was also flavorless and the beans were so bland. When I was first looking for a guatemalan restaurant I listened to another review under this restaurant that said to try Restaurant Quetzal, and I am so glad I listened. The food at Quetzal was just so flavorful and worth the further drive for me. Decided to try this place since it's closer, but will not be returning. The people are nice but I can't get over the flavorless food.
Eres bien atendido en ese lugar
Truly a gem in DC, authentic guatemalan food. A place for local central Americans to eat and rest next to the Guatemalan Consulate. Price is fair, food healthy and delicious
I came to dine here on February 2022 with my family of 3. The style of the restaurant is really run down so don’t take anyone here if you’re looking to impress. Hardly anyone was dining there for a Saturday night. No one greated us at the door, it was our first time here so we didn’t know if we seat ourselves, order at the cash register, so we just went and sat down and waited to see if someone would come serve us. Eventually someone did. She even told my husband what he should order and I don’t think he enjoyed it very much. During this whole dining experience, the waitress came by only once. My husband is Guatemalan and he was so ashamed of this place. Quetzal restaurant puts this place to a total shame, this is the worst latino restaurant I’ve ever been to. The beef was a little undercooked, the potato salad was very nasty, had a strong onion taste, they gave us about 2 tablespoons of rice and very little beans. So to pay $21.99 for one plate, the portions were not worth it, neither the food all that great and we were definitely robbed. What can I say? It’s a poor restaurant who doesn’t have a lot to offer. They charged an $18.99 gratuity fee (for what???) and then wanted a tip too. I will not be coming back here again, please don’t take your friends or family here. They’re poor in style, portions, service, food lacking in taste and terrible. They want a lot of money but they cannot put out on a table to match the money they’re asking for!
great menu and service is outstanding.
There is no customer service attention it’s not the same place how are used to be I guess as a new owner and which I don’t like is the tip is included in your bill I guess that’s why you don’t get attention to tip is optional
Excelente servicio y deliciosa comida guatemalteca
Food is good but prices went up high and customer service is not that satisfying . Attitude alert. Most of them don't speak English. Also they charge you 20% service fee then ask you for additional tip, that seems like a rip off. They never have specials going on or chef's dish of the day nothing like that . Same old menu from I don't know how many years.
Never eating here again ! When I opened my food a fly flew out and out of this same dish there were eggs from that fly! Absolutely disgusting.

Decent food, the place is nice and cozy, a little hard to spot because of its location, the meat stew was really good, the fried steak was a little hard for my taste but, overall a good place.
I'm no expert in Chapin cuisine, but when I tasted that pepián the first time, I knew I was tasting something unique and very delicious. The texture, the flavors of the herbs, the chiilies....it all came together perfectly. Who knew Guatemalan cuisine was this good?? Why isn't it marketed as Guatemalan? Guatemalan cuisine is much more than what other Central American countries have to offer. Check out this place if you want a truly delicious and unique culinary experience.
Great food. Tried all kinds of new things
Food is ok but no same quality like 10 years ago prices are high and be prapare y you party is 4 o more they will charge you 18% of you bill and service is poor . so i not coming back
It took me right back to my time in Antigua, Guatemala. The handmade corn tortillas are delicious and the soups warm the body and the soul. La Bamba is a true gem of Silver Spring.
