★★★★★ A Wheaton Must-Visit: Sabor Mixteco Delivers Authentic Magic!
Stumbled upon Taqueria Sabor Mixteco in Wheaton, Maryland, and I’m so glad I did. This spot nails the essence of Oaxacan-Mixteco cuisine with bold, fresh flavors that feel like a trip to Mexico without leaving the DMV.
Diving into the menu, I started with the tacos de birria – slow-braised beef that’s fall-apart tender, stuffed into soft corn tortillas, and served with a side of consommé that’s rich, spicy, and utterly addictive for dipping. Followed up with tlayudas, the Oaxacan street food staple: a giant crispy tortilla topped with stringy quesillo cheese, shredded chicken, and vibrant pasilla salsa. Every bite is a crunch-savor explosion!
The aguas frescas (horchata and jamaica) were refreshing and perfectly balanced – not too sweet, just right. And those house-made salsas? From mild avocado crema to fiery habanero, the salsa bar is a choose-your-own-adventure in heat.
Service is warm and efficient, the vibe is casual with colorful decor nodding to Mixteco roots, and prices won’t break the bank (tacos around $3-4 each). As a Wheaton local, this has skyrocketed to my weekly rotation.
If you’re in Maryland craving genuine, soul-warming Mexican fare, hit up Sabor Mixteco. The menu online makes ordering a breeze – go now! ¡Delicioso y auténtico al 100%! 🌮🍹

I ordered the Taco Tuesday special. I chose two chicken and two pastor pork tacos. They were super tasty and make me want to order more. Check out Taquería Sabor Mixteco for solo and group outings or dates. The atmosphere and room was very welcoming as was the staff. Hoping to come here again soon!

Excellent food and the best service! This place definitely has a ton of heart. I had chicken tacos and another chicken dish with chocolate in the sauce that was so unique.

It was a religious experience….
Juan and all of the savory and pastry chefs here are artists. You taste the love and artistic expression in the food-
The mole was everything!!! So delicate, a touch of sweet - it brought me back home to my abuelitas kitchen.
Just set aside any expectations you have and run to have lunch- dinner here. This place will transport you to Oaxaca and maybe beyond!
Nos vemos pronto Juan!

Stopped by for dinner here. The atmosphere is quaint and the service was very prompt. The drinks were also good. However, we were underwhelmed by the food. To be clear, it wasn't horrible. I ordered a variety of tacos and my wife had the mole. The tacos were fine, but nothing remarkable. The mole was similarly fine, but not a stand out. It's possible we ordered the wrong things but from what I could tell these were staple dishes at this place. In all fairness, we're spoiled former Californians who have frequented many, many tacquerias and taco trucks. For this area maybe this is the best place around, I don't know.

We were in the area and searched for a place for dinner. We went because it had good reviews. Well, they didn't disappoint. The service was great, the staff, absolutely delightful and the food..chef's kiss. The margarita was super! We did not order the recommended enchiladas with the mole sauce, so we were give a little sauce to try. Absolutely divine mole sauce. Perfection. Next time I'll get the enchiladas!

What a neighborhood gem. We dined outside on Tlayudas and chicken enchiladas. The food is flavorful and fresh, the portion size generous and the service is attentive. We were offered a surprise bonus of salty crickets which reminded me of salt and vinegar potato chips. Will definitely eat there again and this time we'll bring friends.

I finally tried this place after going by it a few hundred times. Standard Mexican restaurant menu with a few differences, but I thought each dish had just something(s) extra in terms of ingredients/flavor to set it apart from most Mexican restaurants. I enjoyed every bit of my chicken enchiladas, rice, beans, chips & salsa, etc. I will be back, and sooner rather than later.

Stopped in on a whim for the first time yesterday. We chose to eat here based on reviews and were not disappointed! Service was excellent and attentive. All the meats were so incredibly tender and juicy. One of the best lengua tacos I’ve had in the area. Nachos with carne asada were a hit. Enchiladas Verdes were very tasty with a tiny kick. Definitely recommend, & will be back.
