⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Hidden Gem in Silver Spring - Perfect for Wine Lovers & Friend Gatherings!
I recently attended what we dubbed "Winesgiving" at Urban Winery with seven friends, and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. This gathering was particularly special as it brought together colleagues-turned-friends, some of whom hadn't all been together since 2020, and the venue proved to be the perfect setting for our reunion.
The new location at 2315 Stewart Ave is absolutely beautiful, offering a spacious and welcoming atmosphere with various seating options - from comfortable bar seats to high tops and standard tables. There's even a lovely outdoor seating area. The venue is ideally situated just outside downtown Silver Spring with plenty of parking, making it easily accessible for our group coming from Northern Virginia, DC, and Baltimore.
What sets Urban Winery apart is their incredible variety of offerings. While most Maryland wineries stick to their house-made wines, this establishment goes above and beyond. They feature an impressive selection of wines, including bottles from black-owned wine companies, and surprisingly, an extensive liquor collection featuring Maryland-made spirits. As a whiskey enthusiast, I was delighted when Kevin, who handled our reservation, offered a mini whiskey tasting and shared his extensive knowledge about local spirits and how they compare to well-known brands.
The service was nothing short of exceptional. Owners Georgia and Damon were present, with Damon personally greeting us early on. Our server Ruthie was attentive, warm, and incredibly accommodating, managing our party of 8 alongside a separate 25-person birthday celebration without missing a beat. The attention to detail and personal touch in the service made everyone feel special and well-cared for.
The Mediterranean/Greek food menu was a delightful surprise - everything was well-seasoned and delicious. They even have a food truck on-site for additional options. A unique touch is the craft items available for purchase, made by the owner's daughter - perfect for holiday gifts!
What impressed me most was how they maintained both quality AND quantity while keeping prices reasonable. The experience was so remarkable that I'm already planning my return visit this coming Sunday (yes, twice in one week!) and seriously considering joining their Barrel Club, which offers quarterly wine experiences and exclusive member discounts.
For those relying on public transport, the upcoming Purple Line will make this location even more accessible. Having moved from their previous downtown Silver Spring location, this new space (open for just over 2 years) offers an elevated experience while maintaining the warm, community feel that makes it special.
This is truly a hidden gem that deserves recognition - whether you're planning a special celebration, a casual gathering with friends, or just looking to explore excellent wines and spirits in a welcoming atmosphere. The combination of outstanding service, diverse beverage selection, delicious food, and comfortable ambiance makes Urban Winery of Silver Spring a must-visit destination. It's clear why they can handle both intimate gatherings and larger parties with equal finesse.
Pro tip: Don't miss the lamb-chops or the chance to try their unique Maryland-made spirits selection!
We hosted an event at Urban Winery. It was a wonderful evening. The food was excellent, the staff were friendly and accommodating, and our guests all had a wonderful time. Highly recommend!
THIS WINERY IS AMAZING!!! From the selection of wines, the food, and the GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE, it’s a TRUE HIDDEN GEM!!!! I will be back with family and friends. I thank you for the delicious and wonderful experience especially since it’s my first visit but TRULY not the last!! See you soon. If you are looking for a place to enjoy great wine and a great atmosphere. THIS PLACE IS IT!!
As a birthday gift, we did a wine tutorial and wine making experience. The owners, Damin and Georgia are so engaging and knowledgeable. It started with a Wine 101 (for lack of a better word). It was extremely informative. Damin made it very interesting. As wine drinker, I learned a lot. We had fun mixing our wine with Georgia. I'm looking forward to returning to pick up my wine!
That said, it was an experience we paid for. I will definitely come back for a random night to enjoy their wine and the chill family atmosphere. Just a nice place to hang out.
Great place to stop at for the full Winery experience. Damon (the owner) was a great help with the wine tasting & explaining all of our questions. We are from the Hampton Roads area of Virginia but we will be back
We just had our 20th anniversary party at the Urban Winery. It was fantastic. The staff worked so hard setting up the patio on a beautiful early fall afternoon and providing incredible service. The wines were excellent. Two delicious, full-bodied reds, Perseverance and Tannat, were amazing. The food was delicious and plentiful. Working with Georgia the owner, was super easy. She is so accomodating and warm. All the guests enjoyed themselves and were thrilled to discover this hidden spot in Silver Spring. The location is in an industrial part of Silver Spring and everyone loved it. The design is excellent and very comfortable. Georgia--we can't thank you enough!
Beautiful establishment!! Must try the Silver Spring White Blend. Amazing!
Urban Winery is one of the best kept secrets in Silver Spring! Love the atmosphere. Love the people! If you like green apple flavor, try the Green Apple Reisling.
Love this place! Family owned, award winning, delicious wines in a beautiful space. Perfect for a date night or happy hour. Cant wait to come back!
I enjoyed the tasting we had with Urban Winery at the Ocean City Wine Festival. If I'm ever in Silver Spring, I would definitely like to visit!

What an amazing gem! The wine is outstanding, nice atmosphere, food consists mainly of light fare which pairs greatly with wine and conversation.
We have been there many times (Al least 10) with family and friends and have always left Urban Winery happy and with the desire to come
back. Highly recommended!!!
Warm and calming ambiance
This is a very nice and cozy wine tasting place and the most of the wines are locally made. Red Adventure tasting menu is a great set menu - chamborcin, Philotimo & 2017 Syrah.
Found them at the Kensington Farmer’s Market and the owner invited me to come to Greek night! They had live music on the patio. The wines they sell are delicious! It seems to be a family place. I wish there were more selections of Greek food, but it was still so yummy! Love the vibe here, tucked away in an industrial area. It’s unexpected and unique and I’ll definitely be back!
Interesting winery concept - more of a wine bar that makes wine (don’t grow their grapes but buys them from mostly local vineyards).
Located in a small industrial area right behind a Silver Spring residential area. A bit tucked away, but google maps and road signs will get you there.
We went on a drizzly day, so no one was using the nicely decorated patio. The door cleverly looks like a cooler of wine
Inside there were 3 seating areas - the bar, a bunch of high tops near the bar, and a bunch of tables along the front wall facing out on the patio. Nice decor & vibe when we arrived as about half the tables were occupied. It a cinder block, concrete building so it got noisier as more tables were filled. No one chose to sit at the bar or high tops. There was 1 woman working her butt off…very efficiently.
Can’t speak to the food since we had lunch prior to arrival (see Polka Deli review). However the tapas and especially the charcuterie boards at nearby tables looked delish.
Wines are okay to good, a couple not good. These are not meant to be serious wines but support the concept behind a growing trend for urban wineries in cities. Go ahead and google it, the economics are good and there are quasi-franchise backers. That’s not to imply that’s the case here, based on their web info this family has been into it before the trend.
What I really like is that they also sell wines that they didn’t make, mostly local wineries and some imports that the big distributors aren’t pushing. You won’t find Yellowtail or 14 Hands on their shelf. The prices were not bad either.
They also offer make your own classes and do group events. See their website for details…part of what makes them interest!
