I ordered online. I took a while to be ready which is to be expected on a weekend. No big deal. I go in to pick it up. The lobby is not very busy. 5-6 employees behind the counter. I wait a minute or so. No acknowledgment. So I spoke to a young man and let him know I had an online order and gave him my name. He called out to others who all seemingly ignored him. I watched my order get packed up and set on top of the ovens. I waited a little while. A family came in and started getting waited on. I had to loudly speak up to get anyone to notice me. Not a good experience at all.

I go here at least twice a .month love it. UT this last Friday at 4:30pm was very disappointed with service. Had to ask to have tabled wiped and my granddaughter had to wait 20 minutes after we got our pizza for her sandwich and not a worker said anything my wife had to go up and ask for it and sandwich was sitting on counter

I love George’s pizza it makes me feel at home. However, I do recommend that they fire the employee broke the glass window in the dining room because I do not appreciate anyone hindering my experience at this establishment. I still feel blessed to have this pizza place located in my home town. :)

I am a pizza fanatic. It is my favorite food, when it's done right. In fact, for much of my life starting when I was 15 years old, I have worked in some of the most popular pizza shops in the area. As the kitchen manager at a local pizza shop I even won a local contest for Best Pizza in Town, which actually covered several surrounding towns.
I first learned how to make the perfect pizza when I worked at Yianni's Pub and DaVincis's Restaurant, both in Lewiston, Maine. The thing about DaVincis's pizza is that it's cooked in a wood fired oven. In my opinion, this is perhaps the best way to cook pizza. And the recipe at DaVincis's is pretty good. But a pizza cooked right in a pizza oven can be just as good - if it's done right and if the recipe is good.
I have tried the pizza at just about every place in this area, looking for the perfect one. It hasn't been easy. Some places have good sauce, but the dough sucks. Or the dough is great, but the cheese sucks.
I purchased a pizza at George's Pizza in Auburn, Maine, for the first time yesterday. It was a pepperoni pizza, and it was perfection. I literally went to pizza heaven. And I'll tell you why it was perfect.
First, the sauce. It was obviously a proprietary sauce that they cooked on the premises. Not out of any jar or can. Nothing can compare to fresh sauce, which has been slow cooked on the premises. George's sauce was just the right texture, just the right amount of spiciness, and just the right amount of sauce on the pizza.
Next, the pepperoni. I'm not certain, but I'd be willing to bet that they use Hormel pepperoni, which they probably slice straight from sticks of pepperoni on a slicer. I say this because Hormel pepperoni is unique - it has a bacon quality to it, which you dont find in any other brand, and which I love. Also, George's pepperoni is smaller than pepperoni you buy already sliced and thicker. It cups up when it is cooked, and for some reason, this makes a huge difference to the flat pepperoni you normally get at pizza shops.
Now, the dough. Obviously, they make their own dough, and they know how to make it perfectly. The most important part of making dough is letting it rise for a couple of days before cooking. It makes the dough light and airy, yet crisp. So many pizza shops do not take this extra step, so their dough is tough and too chewy. George's dough was perfect, and they obviously know the importance of letting dough rise for a couple of days before cooking. Their dough was perfection.
Lastly, the method of cooking. The perfect pizza has to be cooked in an actual pizza pan. (unless its wood fired.) That's a round pan with higher edges that has been properly seasoned. This is just how they do it at George's. It makes the rim of the crust perfectly crispy.
Lastly, the service. I was a walk-in customer during lunch when they were super busy (they have sit-down tables as well). From the time I placed my order to when it was in my hands took just 15 minutes
Folks, if you are in the area and are craving the perfect pizza, you need to go to George's in Auburn, Maine. I live in Dixfield, a 40-minute drive to Auburn, and from now on, I will make the trip to George's for my pizza fix. That's how good it is. Now you can get decent pizza at a lot of local stores in the area. But if you're a pizza fanatic like me, you need to make the trip to Auburn to get George's pizza. I don't care if you have to drive 50 miles - do yourself a culinary favor and make the trip. It just does not get any better than this.
