I have eaten here so many times, I can’t count. With friends, with family, by myself. And with being a transplant to the Waterville/Augusta area, and a foodie, this is by far my favorite restaurant in Maine.

We had a 6:00 reservation and were on time and seated promptly but the service from there went totally down hill! Our first course took 30 minutes to arrive and the second course took 45 minutes and we still did not get our main meal after an hour and a half of waiting! When I asked the waitress to just make the main dish to go because we were tired of waiting she just said oh sorry about that with no explanation on why the long delay and brought us a to go box that had minuscule portions in it and a bill for $200.00! We will NEVER go back and recommend you don't go there...there was another table of four next to us that was equally pissed off and they were aggravated too! We left feeling ripped off and would NOT ever recommend going there there, read the other bad reviews and they say the same thing, this place is a joke!

I’m in Augusta for a work trip.
I went with a couple work colleges and when we got there it was empty, so I was a little nervous. By the time we were done eating I was absolutely blown away the place wasn’t packed full.
In any other big city this place would be booked up for days.
Amazing food, great cocktails and good service.
Don’t shy away if it’s quiet when you first walk by, it will be worth the trip.

We visited for my wife's birthday. Started with a specialty old fashioned which was delicious. The courses were timed well and the options were all tempting. Local lions mane mushrooms, beats, turnip, oysters, duck and fettuccine were all prepared perfectly. Wonderful experience from start to finish. The portions for all course were perfect. They were more than a taste and enough to share. The main course of duck was wonderfully prepared but the 2 silver dollar sized peices did leave me wanting more.
Plenty of room at the 2 bars for walk ins on a Friday. Traffic didn't pick up until 7 or so.
Great food, atmosphere and service. Wonderful experience in Augusta Maine!

On our third trip to Oak Table we left mid-meal vowing to never return. We arrived on time for our reservations and were seated promptly. From there it went downhill fast.
It took about 15 minutes for the waitress to get our drink order leaving us an hour to eat. We politely explained to the waitress the time constraint and we were assured that it would be no problem to get us our food. As it was not bus. We believed her.
We ordered the three shared courses and individual mains. Because we were concerned about the time crunch, we ordered dishes that we thought would be easy to prepare. The first course, cheese and crackers, took 20 minutes to come out. Bad sign.
When the second course, fried mushrooms. came out we repeated our concern about the time and asked the waitress if we should skip the third course, oysters. She again assured us that the mains would come out in time. But, just to be sure we asked for the mains to go and for the check so that we could dash after dinner.
When the oysters finally came out, there was only 10 minutes left, and to rub salt into the wounds the oysters were bad. We live in Maine, eat oysters often, and know a good from a bad one. We were not able to tell the waitress because she never returned.
We waited 10 minutes for our to-go mains to arrive and they did not. Neither did the waitress. No apologies. No offers to remediate the situation. I gave a good tip thinking we would get our food.
Throughout all of this we saw the chef repeatedly helping a cook coming up from the restaurant downstairs which he also owns. The chef also went to the downstairs restaurant twice. There were not many parties dining and they should have seen things going downhill.
Being too busy managing two restaurants is excusable. Serving bad oysters in Maine and taking our money without serving us mains is not. We will not be returning.

I went on a Tuesday evening which was slow, but I still had a great experience!
The food was delicious, especially the mushrooms which I think was my favorite of the items I had. But all the items were great! The chef certainly knows how to cook a great meal.
The dessert was a lot larger than I expected, which I'm not complaining about! But it was a surprise after all the small plates
I also had a wonderful conversation with the server, so I can vouch that they hire good people here.

Oh man, I hardly ever leave reviews but I just left this restaurant shaking and very sad. We had reservations for tonight and arrived on time. We waited several minutes to be acknowledged before being told to “sit wherever”. The atmosphere was very lacking and tables were sticky — certainly not what I expected from a restaurant with a 4-course tasting menu (and all the positive reviews which I am puzzled by). My partner and I love dining & fine dining. We felt immediately judged and dismissed (we assume because of our age or attire?). There were maybe 3 other tables inside. We were seated before another two top right next to us (also told to just sit wherever). We could hear their communications with the waitress and they were treated much better than us. Served before us, had the menu explained to them, had the meals explained to them, etc., while we weren’t given much of anything. Our first course came after 45 MINUTES. 1 cold salad and 1 plate of 4 pieces of cheese and some toast… the table next to us was given a run down of the cheeses while I was given zero explanation. After the other table was served their second course before us again we decided to leave in the middle of the meal. Something neither of us have ever done before. We should have left when we were ignored upon entering.

This is not a fine dining establishment. Took 35 minutes to put a poorly made salad and cheeses on our table. The waitress didn’t tell us what cheeses were what, then brought the table next to us cheese and very politely let them know what cheeses were which. We then waited and waited and were ignored, so we left after an hour of having one plate in front of us. The service was terrible and the one plate we had was not good at all. Won’t be back or recommend to anyone.

Made a reservation here because we liked the idea of a 4 course tasting menu and trying new things. It was nice enough inside but could've looked better with tablecloths and better centerpieces. Not leaving the door to the supply closet open the whole time would've helped atmosphere too. Also, having the bar so close to the table with the server standing at it most of the time, made us feel like we had to whisper to have a private conversation or discuss the food. Server was nice enough but would represent the caliber of the menu better if she dressed in something other than jeans and a tshirt. Also, she forgot our silverware until the second course, when we asked. Food itself was a mix of OK and LOVE, no hate. Some things were absolutely amazing , while others were cooked well but slightly overseasoned. Can't really rate this place on the food though because they do a different menu every day! I would still love to try this place again and give it another shot, just not for a special occasion again, since it was too informal feeling for that.

The chef's table is not yo be missed. Seated around a small kitchen, you will have the choice of three options for each of four courses at a set price.
Hubby and I enjoyed every dish which ran the range from kimchee and cucumber salad, lions main mushrooms, oysters, and home made pastas. We each had different choices for each course for a total of 8 dishes and everything was made to order and fantastic thanks to chef Dan.
The view out the windows led to the river and their were triva cards on the counter which made for extra fun in the dinner conversation.
This time we were just passing through but we will be back again with a plan to linger longer.
We each had a cocktail and a glass of wine plus tge tasting menu... all for just over $200 total which is a fraction of the price we would have paid for the same experience in Boston.

Eli the chef was excellent. He prepared the entire restaurant patrons entrées that night and did it pleasantly and skillfully. We sat at the “bar”in back which wasn’t romantic or scenic since the windows faced the river and it was the official”kitchen” area and there were cooking items on the seals of windows so couldn’t see out that but well the chef made it all worthwhile with his excellent delicious dishes and we left completely satisfied. If you want a date night table ask when you reserve.
