We are from San Francisco and very familiar with the farm to table concept originated by Alice Waters at Chez Panise. Alice would be very pleased with this culinary descendent. The food was very tasty and interesting takes on the core concept of whatever protein. We were very pleased to have had delightful opportunities to chat the owner and her staff. We have not previously been in Bangor and had no preconceptions of what we might expect with regard to cuisine. If we are were to visit Bangor again, we would eagerly return to the Fiddlehead!

We were looking for a unique outing experience, and came to Fiddleheads. From the moment we walked in the door we fell in love with the atmosphere. When it comes to the food, both in variety and quality, rest assured, you will be hard pressed to find better in the entire state! This has quickly become one of our favorite places!

Had a delicious meal in this lovely restaurant. Staff is friendly and attentive. Wonderful cheese plate, delicious fish chowder. If you come to Bangor, do not miss the chance to try Fiddlehead.

It's a very cool restaurant. Great atmosphere, nice bar. It's expensive, but worth it. The menu is small and manageable which is a sign of good management. They are short staffed like everyone is, but they tag team the responsibilities to compensate and I thought that was creative and effective. It's definitely worth trying, I recommend it.

Some say it is loud. Yes, it is a place to celebrate and do it with exuberance. It is home.....and fine dining blended together in what many could not handle. If you come for fine dining you will be mesmerized by the spectacular food. If you want quiet and demur with elegant music in the background you will be disappointed. It is like the home kitchen with family bantering and laughing all through it. Laura and Mel have taken that home feel, put flavors and foods together that will have you wondering, "what flavors are those!?" Desserts that Karlie puts together, like key lime crème brûlée and crème brûlée with vanilla bean and pepper corns; again having you wondering, "how is this so amazing!?"It is a small restaurant that takes glorious pride in providing a lot of their own home-grown foods, and what they can't from the Fiddlehead Farm, they source locally. Our only negative is the Herbie Hancock is going into hibernation until basil comes again in the spring. Needless to say, we applaud their commitment to 'the fresh' and 'in season', but are already depressed because Herbie was a trusted friend! And the staff, what beautiful amazing souls! They compliment the dreams of two woman and add their own verve, like an added sauce that takes the meal to the next level. I think we would even go so far as to say they are the wonderful butter dripping over a beautiful steak or delicately prepared fish.Standing ovation to such a wonderful place and the atmosphere they foster!!!

Every time I’m in Bangor we make sure to make a reservation at Fiddlehead. The food and drinks are absolutely amazing! They are a farm to table restaurant and whatever they don’t get from their farm they source locally and I really think that makes all the difference. They serve unique takes on dishes you’ve had before. On my last visit one of the specials was a tomato salad with a balsamic glaze and some olive oil, goat cheese and basil with crostini. Sounds simple enough and something I’ve enjoyed before at other places, but WOW! The tomatoes were perfect! They were juicy but not watery and were complimented so nicely with the cheese and balsamic & oil. I was in heaven and that was only starter. My dishes just went up the yummy meter after that! I was too full to order dessert this time around. You would be doing yourself a disservice by not eating here if you’re in the area. I don’t think there’s a place I can recommend to eat at more!

If you are looking for a place to celebrate a special occasion or indulge your senses, Fiddlehead is the place to go in central and northern Maine. The decor is welcoming and warm, the staff greets you warmly and is knowledgeable about the food and wine pairings, and the food is out of this world. We have been coming here for 15 years, and the meal - on a Tuesday! - was perfection. A spicy fish stew with some greens mixed in, pork belly that melts in your mouth, and a halibut with a green tang that made us savor every bite. Trip Advisor has the restaurant as very expensive, but if you chose, there are cheaper options on the menu. For us, we return here time after time.

the rudest staff i have every met i have been in restaurant's all over the country and have never been thru anything like the" fiddledud" first of all we had a reservation for 7:30 didnt get seated till 20 mins later, waited 2hrs for food no follow-up drink orders we ended up walking out because after 2hrs and 10 mins we still had no food. no apologies from this short black haired lady but instead she called the police because we were leaving after 2hrs and 10mins!! shes screaming we are stealing from her when she never brought out the food we had a party of 6 so not a small bill but i guess we were not local so she treated her friends better than out of towners STAY AWAY!!!!!

We went there to celebrate our 8th anniversary. The food was awful. We had such an unpleasant experience for a moment that we were looking forward to with anticipation. You deserve to go out of business.

Our favorite place to eat in the whole state of Maine. So good I got on one knee and proposed to my wife here. Afternoon on the veranda is a must drink when here.

I’ve eaten at Fiddleheads a few times now and it’s been great every time. The food is so unique and you can tell they put a lot of time and effort into planning their menu. The cocktails are delicious! It’s a great place for a special event like an anniversary or birthday. They always make you feel so cozy and welcome.

I great overall experience.Very accommodating! The menu selections were extraordinary, we had a 4 course meal. I'm glad we had our 4th course because it was crème brulee! They support the local farms, everything was fresh and grown with care. Delicious! We shall return soon! Highly recommended.

One of my favorite scenes in Pretty Woman with Julia Roberts and Richard Gere is where our sweet, lovely Vivian makes a return appearance to one of the high end boutiques that previously shunned her. I believe we all know women like these elitist store owners and retail associates They make assumptions based on initial impressions. Basically they are snobs. Anyway Julia/Vivian returns after a huge day of shopping to let these snobs know they made a “huge mistake, huge!” I’m no Vivian, and certainly I believe the fine workers at this local establishment are not the snobs of Rodeo Drive. Ahhh but yet, their little hostess/manager is. My family and I decided to spend our last evening of a week long trip to Bar Harbor in Bangor and head back home the following day. Hungry after a very long day starting with a beautiful sunrise atop Cadillac Mountain, we sought out a great dinner and a damn good bottle of wine. We decided to try 11 Central, which unfortunately was closed for the evening. So on to Fiddlehead. The location has a lot of charm. The “hostess” stand was a little strange but we had high hopes since the restaurant smelled divine. No one was there to greet us so we thought we’d take a look at the paper menu for the evening. We hear a tiny, yet shrill voice coming from near the bar to “please wait!!! I will be there soon!” I gently responded we were just glancing at the menu. She seemed approachable, in a cute and funny Cheri Oteri a’la SNL way. But this was no friend of Will Ferrel. After admonishing us to please “WAIT” she arrived at the “hostess stand” where she asked if we had reservations. “No” unfortunately we didn’t. I have eaten at many an establishment. I have had reservations and no reservations. I have had the nicest and sweetest accommodating hostesses and those that are, still entirely professional, unable to accommodate. Until tonight, I have never had anyone treat me or my family as if we were not only unwelcome but insane for thinking that we could just “walk in off the street and get a table. “Oh but if you feel like waiting for a couple hours before we close?” I then, like a dumbass, asked “we are hungry and from out of town, any suggestions?” Well she hesitated and rolled her eyes, “maybe the restaurant over there in the building I haven’t tried it but I hear it’s good. Or maybe some of the more pub like places down the road.” Well She certainly had no knowledge of the “other” restaurant in her building “Utopia” because she had no idea they weren’t open. Utopia beware And as we are leaving she made sure to yell we could “use the bathrooms as we left.” Such a bizarre way to end a conversation with people you looked “down on” and wanted out of your sight as quickly as possible. I wish this was all a joke. A funny Cheri Oteri skit or a scene from a blockbuster movie. But this was an interaction with an unhappy, rude snob. Your restaurant may be phenomenal, but the first person that interacts with your customers should at least be nice, maybe fake, but a nice human being. I have literally wasted an evening pissed off at a woman I will hopefully never see again. Thanks Fiddlehooker for ruining my night. Well at least part of it
