We were referred to this pub as a great breakfast place by the front desk person at Anchorage Motel. The blueberry pancakes were good, but the blueberry muffins were even better!
The pub offers delicious food and cocktails in a cozy, charming space.
Although this inn/restaurant is not on the “main” section of town, it is a must stop for dinner! Of our three days in Bar Harbor this was the BEST dinner we had. Brian , our server was attentive, funny and friendly. The cozy atmosphere is welcoming. The burger was one of the best I’ve had in my life and the fries will disappear before you know it! Scallop tacos were amazing as well. Although we were stuffed, we couldn’t pass on the homemade desserts. Don’t miss out on this treasure!!
The food was incredibly delicious at the pub and the staff was friendly. We came here on the recommendation of a local. Everything we ordered was SO tasty. The food was fast to come out as well.
Unfortunately we were not able to stay overnight. But our dinners and dessert were amazing. Very nice place to hang out.
We stayed two nights and enjoyed dinner during happy hour and breakfast, which is included in the stay. The room was great! The bed was comfy and we booked room 4, so there was a spiral staircase leading to a cozy nook for watching TV in the evenings. The food was delicious! We had fish and chips that were nice and crispy. The breakfast was also delicious, and way more than you could get at a traditional hotel. It’s a great location with just a short walk to all the shopping and restaurants so you don’t have to worry about finding a place to park. It’s also about 13 minutes from Acadia, so going back and forth throughout the day was no issue.
The liveliness and comradery of the staff is palpable. The staff makes the atmosphere such a fun place to eat dinner.
Server, I believe Ryan, was exceptionally friendly. Beers were good, and our food was tasty. My husband particularly enjoyed the fish and chips!
Had a local suggest this for breakfast and dinner. So good, we visited twice in two nights for dinner. Phenomenal food - great service. Best fish and chips I’ve ever had made with fresh haddock. Second night was halibut with risotto - absolutely amazing.
We did not use the rooms. But we are there twice! The Lobster Chimi's...and the poutine appetizers were amazing!!! We also had the Weekly special - meatloaf and swordfish! Yummy!
The blueberry mojito was unexpectedly yummy too! You should get RVSP's during busy days. It's a hot place!

A little out of the way but worth it. Scallops and oysters are a must. Lamb stew was fantastic. Blueberry martini was the drink of choice. Accommodating for my service dog after some initial conversation. Fun night!
Black Friar Pub has amazing vegan food!! The homemade burger is unlike anything I have ever had, and I have been dreaming about the french fries ever since. We brought our children aged 1&3, and they had a pb&j and loved it as well. Hidden gem for sure.
Came here on a whim for happy hour. We were promptly seated but the place was so cozy. We got a couple beers, $2 oysters. It was such an intimate setting I would highly recommend.
This review is for the restaurant, we didn’t stay at the hotel. The service was attentive and the happy hour oysters were great. This is right in the downtown area, so a convenient location.
Nice rooms, great customer service, and free off street parking. One pleasant bonus was the Scotch eggs for breakfast. Those things are almost worth it on their own.
