What a lovely B&B! We stayed in the turret room, which had a small sitting room above the bedroom. Everything was clean and comfortable.
The food was delicious and the service was kind and professional.
We did not stay at the inn but we did go to the pub for dinner- it was delicious and had several GF items to choose from! Don’t miss the poutine !
Stayed one night. The dinner was amazing, the breakfast was fantastic, the host were wonderful to deal with. If we are back in the area we will definitely stay here again.
Get the Meatloaf and make it famous.
My wife and I dined at the Pub on July 22nd, following a recommendation from Christopher at the Bar Harbor Manor.
The food was absolutely amazing, and our server, Jamie, made us feel genuinely welcome from the moment we arrived.
We started with two appetizers—raw oysters and the lobster chimi—both fresh and full of flavor. For our mains, we enjoyed the daily special of stuffed halibut and the pasta scampi. Each dish was expertly prepared, served hot, and incredibly delicious.
The atmosphere, service, and cuisine all exceeded our expectations. I would highly recommend this establishment to anyone visiting the area.
Breakfast was absolutely delicious and fresh! The atmosphere had a cozy, homey vibe—felt like having a meal with family. Such a great start to the day
Absolutely loved our evening with Will as our server. He did an amazing job walking us through the menu, giving recommendations, and attending to us all thought out our time. And the food and drinks were AMAZING!!
My friend and I loved our stay at the Black Friar Inn! We had the turret room, which was a very fun place to relax and read a book. It’s a quiet location on a back street right off the main drive, so easily walkable to anything in town.
Was a great experience staying here! The rooms were super unique and clean, food downstairs was amazing, and everyone was super friendly. Location was perfect and they have parking which is a plus!
We didn’t stay at the inn but dined in the pub for dinner. The fish and chips and bison burger special were both delicious! Lost a star because the cocktails were watered down and not worth the $14-$16 price tag but the food was amazing!

Had dinner only. Food was good. The Clam Chowder tasted very good but could have had more clams. The Caesar was also good with freshly grilled chicken that was still warm.
I was assigned the bartender to be my server - an unusual practice that I've only seen in Bar Harbor. The bartender was busy with other things and the service suffered. Full time servers also tend to be very professional.
The restaurant is not air conditioned - which is usually not a problem this north in Maine - but the temperature got into the low 90's. The only ceiling fan was not working and few open windows were not enough.
Comfortable, clean, quiet. We had a great 5 night stay, walked all around bar harbor and 10 minute drive to acadia. Everyone was super friendly, the pub was great for breakfast, happy hour, and dinner. Nothing negative to say!
Went there for happy hour. The place was cool and the food smelled great but the hostess was unexpectedly abrupt and rude. We rarely give a bad review but there was only two tables in the restaurant and she was inconvenienced by my famy coming in. We won't be back.
Had a great experience at Black Friars Inn. The food was excellent—fresh and flavorful, especially the oysters, which were a standout. They also have a solid beer list, some very hard to get.
Our server, Brian, was friendly and very fun. The atmosphere is cozy and relaxed, fitting well with the Bar Harbor vibe.
Overall, a great spot if you’re looking for good food and service in a comfortable setting. Would definitely go back.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Black Friar! It is perfectly situated steps off the main streets for a peaceful stay that's a very easy walk to all the restaurants and shops on Cottage and Main streets. The Turret room was delightful and they have ALL the details covered. Breakfast was delicious and made to order (the restaurant at the Inn is open to the public). The staff was very friendly and happy to accommodate. I look forward to staying there again.
