After a long day of whale watching (and fighting off a touch of seasickness), we decided to eat at the first place we saw when we docked — The Fish House Grill. Big mistake.
Once seated, we waited what felt like geological time for anyone to acknowledge our existence. When the food finally arrived, it barely justified the patience — or the price tag.
The clams were the saving grace — genuinely tasty and perfectly cooked, giving the meal a faint pulse of redemption.
In short: great location, mediocre food, premium prices, and service that seemed to be on its own break.

We have been going to The Fish House every time we visit Bar Harbor (which is almost every year) with our dogs whom are in strollers. We went there on Sunday, 9/28/2025, and were told that dogs are not allowed in and have not been allowed in for the past 7 years by the manager on duty. A bunch of crock, we were last there 5/2023 and ate their 3 times with our pups.
He eventually let us in, but blatantly lied to us. We always sit out on the patio and this time there was nobody out there.

Right on the water! Fantastic lobster bake!! Great service. Would highly recommend!
First impression was terrible, looking for a nice meal on the water and being greeted by a woman who looked genuinely offended at our presence; AirPod in no smile and seemed completely disinterested in her job. The food was decent but the price was definitely above average. The shrimp were chewy and flavorless, the haddock and flounder however were highlights of the meal.

Place was empty despite all the restaurants being full from a cruise ship recently docking. Hostess was annoyed and rude enough to steer us away. Glad we ate somewhere else.

We decided to go here on a whim. We had just finished our sail at Bar Harbor Whale Company. We both ordered the Fish Sandwich - one grilled, one blackened. We both loved our fish sandwiches, probably one of the better meals we had in Bar Harbor!
