I reserved a table a month ahead of time for our 20th Anniversary and my 50th bday. I explained all this on the app. It was a very special day for us. They did not give us a table with a view. We were actually crowded in with two other tables. The server grabbed an anniversary card on her way and put on our table as we were seated. (No mention of birthday at all). Our server was very good. We ordered, and our food was out in less than 10 min. A filet and lobster. I'm going to guess it was precooked maybe. No a great dining experience at all. Food was ok, at best. Really a disappointing experience and would not recommend.

Very disappointed in our meal at the Reading Room. The staff are bit arrogant and stand offish. the food not well prepared, bland, over sauced, and is old fashioned and dated. The Bar Harbor Inn is beautiful and The Reading Room is lovely with large windows to view the water. Too bad the food and service doesn't match the ambiance.

We were celebrating our 29th wedding anniversary & we're visiting Bar Harbor for a long weekend. We should have tried to book a reservation earlier than when we arrived in ME, but we did secure a reservation at 5pm. We order the Old & In Fashioned & Drop in the Blues cocktails, which were excellent. I ordered a cup of the lobster bisque, which was absolutely delicious, but much richer than I was expecting. I could not eat my dinner of sea scallops due to this. My husband ordered the ahi tuna appetizer & Ribeye for dinner. He thoroughly enjoyed both. The manager was very accommodating and subtracted the cost of my dinner since I couldn't eat it. The staff was very attentive & we had an anniversary card from the restaurant waiting for us at our table when we arrived. We appreciated the hospitality & service!

Overall was a very nice fine dining experience. The hotel itself is a pleasure to spend time in prior to being seated for dinner. The fresh cookies in the lobby was an unexpected treat. The offerings on the menu we're both interesting and satisfying and served. Overall, a very good experience.

Some better than average food with a side of pretentiousness. We arrived 10 minutes early to check in and were told by the Maître d assistant that “Your table will be ready for when the reservation was made.” OK then. Once we were allowed in, the live piano player created a nice atmosphere and the views from the dining room were astounding. We had a personable waiter and attentive staff. Excellent bread and blueberry butter. Meager half dozen oysters on the half shell should have stayed in the ocean. My seared scallops were good, but the onion in the dish detracted from the overall taste. My wife's cod, wrapped in prosciutto, was dry and tasteless. We deferred dessert because the rest of the meal beforehand was not enticing, and the cost of this experience definitely didn't match what we paid for. Not recommended.
We had reservations for 6PM We arrrived 10 minutes early and we were told by the maitre d that we would be seated at 6. He was curt and somewhat rude. In the meantime a number of people arrrived without reservations and were seated immediately. I think that we should have been seated in advance of people without reservations.

The food was amazing and delicious! Our server was fantastic- Sabrina- a local -gave us great recommendations! We were celebrating our anniversary and they gave us a nice card and special dessert. We had a table right next to the window to look out at the water.
