My boyfriend and I are from the Portland area and we needed a little getaway so we spent the weekend in Bar Harbor on the off season. We stayed just down the street from The Barnacle and Trevor the bartender took great care of us! He made us feel welcome and just like one of the locals. I asked for an espresso martini without Baileys and he created a dark chocolate orange espresso martini which was the best espresso martini I have ever had. 10/10 service and a great atmosphere that brings you all of the cozy New England vibes you could ask for. It’s a great spot for a quick snack and spirits. Will absolutely be coming back this summer!

Lucked out finding this spot in the off season. Turns out it was the on season for Oysters (which I’ve fleeted from for my whole life). Thanks to Trevor though, and the cozy atmosphere, we not only had an amazing time, but I now have a newfound love for oysters. Thanks Trevor for all the local knowledge on oysters and encouragement to try them. Highly recommend this place!!

If you’re in Bar Harbor and you want to drink until 1 in the morning, this is one of two options. But lucky for you, it’s a great option. The bartenders are extremely knowledgeable, and the whiskey selection was above average. I tried a new Japanese whiskey that I had never seen before. That’s a pretty cool thing to experience in northern Maine in December. You can also see women dressed like Elsa from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and men wearing colorful ski jackets from the 80s. The Barnacle is a must visit if you’re in Bar Harbor.

After a long day of driving up to Bar Harbor, we needed a cold beer and some oysters. We ran straight to The Barnacle, they delivered! Shout out to Zanna for holding down the entire bar on her own on a holiday Monday. We had great drinks, the freshest oysters I've ever had, and a delicious smoked trout dip. 10/10, definitely recommend. And definitely will be back!

The Barnacle was one of the standout stops of our trip — a cozy, welcoming spot that feels genuinely loved by locals. The oysters were exceptional, easily the best we had anywhere in Maine: fresh, briny, and perfectly shucked. Despite handling the bar and floor service alone, the bartender managed everything with calm expertise and friendly efficiency.

The smoked fish dip was a nice addition to the menu, though a slightly lighter texture might make it even better. The soft pretzel was excellent, complemented by two outstanding sauces — a mustard with a bright, refreshing heat and a rich, creamy beer cheese served perfectly hot.

The beer selection was thoughtful and diverse, with the bartender offering knowledgeable recommendations. The cocktail list looked fantastic, even though we didn’t sample any this time. Overall, The Barnacle delivers great food, skillful service, and an easygoing coastal atmosphere — a place that clearly earns its local following.

Sat down, at the back of the place in super narrow walkway. Got a menu and were asked to order something. We were first ones to get in line for next open table but somehow waitress took another couples who came after us to the tables that was supposed to get cleaned. No thanks, def won’t be back. Playing favorites for some reason is not the kind of vibe we want

Seriously the best Oysters I’ve ever had. They were cleaned and shucked extremely well. The vibes were immaculate by the window, the view was gorgeous!!
