We were in Castine and after reviewing eateries on TripAdvisor we decided on Markel's. We were not disappointed with our order of a ruben sandwich and the lox platter which was equally split. Everything was tasty and well prepared. Definitely a place to stop in for lunch.
This is a great place to have breakfast or lunch. PLENTY of seating inside and outside. Good views of the harbor from the outdoor patio. It is centrally located. Gourmet sandwiches and my personal favorite is the turkey, cranberry, brie on a baguette. Lots of pastries to choose from. Huge drink selection. Can't go wrong here.
I have visited Markel's about six times in the last month. I've enjoyed both lunch and breakfast at this popular local spot. Everything here is cooked to perfection. Hearty sandwiches, creative quiche, generous salads, delectable baked goods...all prepared with care and creativity. Regular fare and specials are all on the chalkboard.
