I cannot begin to say enough about our delicious Supper at this gorgeous historic Inn. We were greeted as we entered this beautiful Inn by a smiling handsome young man (im so sorry I did not get his name) who seated us outside on a delightful porch where we were surrounded by lovely potted flowers. Our server Jenn was a delight and our food spectacular. I had the Smoked Trout Pate appetizer and the Golden Pan Fried Cod Entre. The Cod was cooked to perfection with a delicate light golden crunch to every bite and the hinted vanilla Rudebaga was just mouthwatering. I was a guest of the Mills family and they enjoyed the Lobster Pot Pie and the Lobster Linguine and were very pleased with their choices as well. Overall i would rate our experience a 10 out of 10. Do not hesitate to step into this beautiful Inn and enjoy every moment.
My wife and I stayed at the Pentagoet for five nights for our honeymoon in Castine. We could not have imagined a better hotel or location to spend the week! Our room and the rest of the inn were well decorated and clean. Our view of the bay from our window each morning meant waking up was a reminder to relax and soak in the place. The food was top-notch and all the staff treated us so kindly.
It is clear that Matt, George, and their dog Mister are part of the small tight-knit community in Castine, which in turn made us part of the community. We arrived on Bastille Day and were blown away by the Pentagoet's bar special that was part of the town's celebration. Despite wearing several hats while running the Inn, Matt took the time to get to know us, give us advice about things to check out in the area, and tell us more about the Inn.
If you're coming to Castine, stay here! And if it's booked, then make sure you get dinner at the Pentagoet!
My husband and I came for dinner and loved both the food and the place! We ate out on the pretty porch. My husband’s lobster linguini was delicious, and my mushroom faroe with roasted vegetables was terrific! Shared a great chocolatey devils food cake (Tres Lecce name didn’t convey the chocolatey-ness, but we loved it.)
We wanted to see the inside so we went in to the bar for an after dinner port. It’s charming!!! They have decorated it with incredible care and creativity. Worth seeing!
Staying at the Pentagoet was a true delight that I would recommend to anyone! Castine itself is such a quaint town with many wonderful local businesses and so much history. Being there makes you feel so far away in the best way possible. But the shining star of the town has to be the Pentagoet run by the most wonderful innkeepers, Matt & George, and a truly lovely staff! Everyone we encountered on their team was kind, friendly and offered excellent service. It's easy to just park your car on main street or on the side of the inn and then from the minute you walk into the space, you are blown away at all of the decor and details that make it feel comfortable, classy and modern and at the same time so true to the inn's Victorian history. You can tell each corner of the inn has been decorated intentionally and with much care. Our room (#3) was comfortable, clean and had so many fantastic details like a signature smell, complimentary bath/shower items, and of course - the signature balcony (AMAZING!). The communal spaces are fantastic as well. The patio is gorgeous, the porch is so peaceful, and the pub is incredibly cozy and chic. Breakfast was delicious and they also offer coffee service upstairs outside of the rooms, which is such a great touch. The food and drinks at the pub are also outstanding!! For good reason, the restaurant books up fast so definitely always make a reservation whether you are staying or only coming for dinner but you certainly won't regret experiencing the cocktails (love the blueberry one..so Maine!) and the food. The menu is seasonal I believe but everything we tried was absolutely delicious. The ode to lobster on the menu was also quintessential Maine and so good.. my husband had lobster linguini. I had short rib sliders that were also amazing. If you get the chance to try the blueberry cobbler or chocolate tres leches, do it!! Those are two desserts my husband and I will never forget. Actually.. the whole place and experience is something we will never forget. It was a highlight of our Maine vacation and we will forever be grateful to Matt and George for the space they have created and remarkable levels of hospitality that feel truly special! Thank you Matt, George and the Pentagoet team! Just the best!!!
Matt and George do an outstanding job at this charming, historic inn. They’ve covered every last detail and you feel pampered from the minute you step inside their beautiful foyer … greeted with a Prosecco no less! Loved the rooms, the food, the character. Five stars all around.
We had an unforgettable stay at The Pentagoet Inn & Pub in Castine! Innkeepers Matt and George bring an incredible sense of style, warmth, and inclusivity to this charming historic inn.
Their attention to detail, mindfulness, and genuine hospitality creates an atmosphere that is both elegant and completely unpretentious — you feel like you are staying with old friends.
The rooms are beautiful, full of personality and comfort, and the views of the harbor and village are just stunning. The Mister Pub, named for the Innkeeper’s cute miniature schnauzer, is a cozy, spirited gathering spot with amazing food (the clam chowder is a must!) and a sense of community that is rare to find.
My husband and I were fortunate enough to attend Jazz Night and the Oyster Shuck while there. A balanced and relaxing vacation.
Matt and George have cultivated a space that feels open, safe, and full of heart — for everyone. It is clear that love, creativity, and authenticity are at the core of everything they do.
Their staff reflects that same spirit: kind, attentive, and truly welcoming. From Jana’s warm smile upon our arrival, to Patricia lovely cuisine each day and to the many others on Team Pentagoet, Well Done!
If you are heading to Castine, Maine and want a stay that is as meaningful as it is relaxing, The Pentagoet is a gem you do not want to miss. We will absolutely be back.

What a gem in beautiful and historic Castine! We enjoyed a pleasant get away and an amazing meal! We happened to be there during the 131st birthday celebration and that only added to the fun and vibrant atmosphere! Matt and George have given so much attention to detail and it shows in every aspect of the inn, from the decor to the menu. Our room was tastefully decorated with a beautiful view of the town and water.
We have ready shared our experience with friends and family and look forward to returning!
We had the opportunity to spend a night and enjoy a delicious dinner at the Pentagoet Inn and Pub. The Inn is gorgeous and the owners have thought of every detail. The pub and restaurant were outstanding. We would highly recommend this little piece of coastal, historic Maine.
Rooms great no AC though...ceiling fans. The bar is gorgeous. Parking plentiful

We just returned home after a four-day stay at Pentagoet Inn and we can't stop talking about it!
Planning the next year stay already :)
Being some of the first guests of the season, we were absolutely enchanted by how well prepared Matt and George were to open their doors to us. We stayed in room 1, which is so beautiful and tastefully decorated!
Pentagoet Inn is a jewel, thanks to Matt and George! These young and extremely pleasant men have taste, tact and above all, they exult kindness and joy.
Food, drinks, bar, music, atmosphere - everything was what we wanted and needed!
Thank you both, and thank you to your staff for making our stay unique and so, so charming!

My husband and I were lucky enough to celebrate our 2nd wedding anniversary at the Pentagoet Inn and Pub. This was our first visit to Castine and Matt and George were so incredibly welcoming and warm upon our arrival and throughout our stay. The room was clean, cute and cozy. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel like appreciated guests. The decor and vibe of the inn was so fitting to the history of Castine, and it is clear that the owners genuinely care about the experience of their guests. Thank you to Matt and George and the rest of the staff at the Pentagoet Inn, we will be back!
I stayed in room 7 at The Pentagoet for 4 nights in mid-October. Room 7 is the BEST! The bed is so comfortable and the view is outstanding! In my hubris, I went to bed with the blinds open and woke up to the most AMAZING sunrise over the ocean, however, as it rose higher it became blinding.. but it was worth it.
The room got cool at night and I LOVED it. I think it helped me sleep so cozy. I didn't notice a thermometer so I'm not sure if there's a way to change the temperature in the room (it has an old steam radiator). There is a heat fan in the bathroom that I appreciated when I took my shower, it really warmed the bathroom up.
The inn itself is really lovely. The food at the restaurant was fantastic. Matt, one of the owners, was so friendly and helpful. The art and decor was beautiful and fitting for the historic hotel. I appreciated the convivial nature of the pub before dinner. I met and conversed with several lovely individuals both locals and guests.

This review is waaaay overdue, but this place is so special and deserves every star I can give it and more.
My sister, cousin, and I stayed at the Pentagoet Inn in June and boy was it memorable, in the best possible way. We absolutely fell in love with Matt and George; it's damn near impossible not to! They carry such pride for the Inn and they should, because it's a precious jewel.
I cannot understate how perfect the stay was. The beds, the food, the decor, the view, obviously Matt and George...everything was just...correct. The featured while we were there contained lilac straight from their garden and it was SO GOOD. They could've wheeled in a keg with that drink and I would've kicked it. The dessert was a chocolate tart and I can't believe I managed to get a picture of it before we inhaled it. They allowed us to use a table in the dining room to play cards, talked with us like we've been friends forever, and even brought us champagne while we played...I mean, seriously.
No offense to any other reviewers who complained about the stairs--and I'll try not to be rude--but, what did you expect??? It's a 3 floor building, are they supposed to magic you upstairs?
I wish I could write a review that would do them justice, but that's a fool's errand.
Thank you, Matt and George, for sharing your beloved gem and we can't wait to come back! XOXOXO
