Safe Harbor Café has a beautiful location—right on the water with peaceful views that make it a lovely spot to relax and enjoy a meal. The food is good and fresh, with a small but appealing menu, and the atmosphere is relaxed and inviting. It is on the pricey side, but you’re definitely paying in part for the setting. A nice place to treat yourself if you’re looking for a scenic waterfront dining experience in Castine.

It makes me so sad to read the earlier bad review!!! We ordered crab rolls and fries.
The crab rolls were delicious! They were almost pure crab and tasted like it. As good as the crab was, the fries were the best I ate on our week long trip to Maine. These folks are wonderful and work hard!

I haven't eaten there recently, but I hope anyone thinking of writing a review(like the one below) or anyone reading these reviews will understand that in Maine, usually Mid-August and until re-opening in May of the next year the restaurants are all operating with probably half or less of their staff. I work in another town on an island here in Maine not far from Castine and starting on August 6th we lost most of our students. So now we are down to less than half of our original staff but with still high business. Please look around this time of year and see how many staff you see before making a judgment call on how poor the service is. We are all doing our best for tourists until the end of season. Be kind. Have a great rest of season Safe Harbor!

This is a gold mine right at the pier. The only game in town for a quick bite of seafood, a lobster roll, burger or hot dog. Overall food is good and hits the spot just fine. However, the service is far from good and they can't seem to get their act together. Don't understand why it take 45 minutes for each order- regardless of what you order? And they don't care. This is a business that is a no brainer and yet, they can't figure it out.

It’s classic coastal fare you’d expect when enjoying the waterfront here in Maine and a Castine staple! Reasonably priced, family friendly, and easy going. Jules goes above and beyond!

Kid-friendliness: My picky eater was very happy!

Had the haddock, grilled cheese and fries. All good. Excellent fries! Fun to sit on dock to eat. Prices are reasonable. Ice cream for dessert! Friendly staff.

Kid-friendliness: Kids items on menu.

Wheelchair accessibility: Flat surface/newly paved parking lot with no curb or step to access outside window for order and pick up.

Had the perfect hot dog to start the summer. Even better were the French fries, some of the best I’ve ever had. A humble food, perhaps, and easy to get wrong. My order of French fries was perfect. Looking forward to my next visit!
