Metcalf's Submarine Sandwiches

the woman up front was quite rude, food was kind of bland but okay

I wanted to share my experience from my recent visit to Metcalf’s. While I truly appreciate the friendly atmosphere and the delicious half sandwich I ordered, I was a bit taken aback by the cleanliness in the dining area.

Upon entering, I noticed a toddler behind the register with noticeable nasal congestion dripping from his face, as well as a young child sitting on the counter with noticeable nasal congestion. This raised some concerns for me, especially considering that this is the area where food is being served. Additionally, I observed a staff member in the kitchen holding a very young baby, which made me think about cleanliness and health standards.

I understand that everyone has families and that kids can be unpredictable, but I felt it was important to share my thoughts as a customer. I want to emphasize that the staff were kind, and my sandwich was tasty, but I believe some attention to hygiene could enhance the overall experience for everyone.

The classic Maine Italian was great!

We had them make a platter of sandwiches and salad for four. Perfect amount of food for our group. Sandwiches were very yummy, and the salad was made with garden greens, which I love! Can't say enough about how good the food is. We will be back!

An excellent place to stop on the back end of the building to get a quick and refreshing meal. I got the #17 turkey and avocado which was fresh and excellent. Service was nice and super fast. Ordered two #17 and we were out of there in 5 min!

Delicious sandwiches, great portions, friendly staff! So many good choices (huge menu selection), but I particularly love the reuben and the chicken salad. Perfect to take for a picnic lunch by the water.

Just stood and watched my order be made, to my understanding gloves aren’t required when preparing food, but when I say I am revolted when I just watched someone touch the phone, a pen and paper then go back to making sandwiches then grab a pile of dirty rags and throw them in the sink then again continue make sandwiches and hands were not washed or sanitized between any of these steps mortifies and disgusts me and could easily make someone sick.

Back here for the first time since coming with my Mom and Dad in 1985. We took our subs to Pemaquid Pt. then and did it again today with my family. Still the best subs and the best spot to eat them.

Very friendly, prompt service both times ive been. Pastrami Sub was delicious. Awesome view from inside or out.

Actually the best sandwich I’ve ever had. Can’t go wrong with a paesano panin.A little bit pricey, so keep that in mind. That being said, if you have a couple bucks to spend, it’s 100% worth it.
