This is our favorite restaurant Downeast. Tonight when I asked if I could just have olive oil on my salad do to my allergies, the chef personally brought out some speciality olive oils for us to sample, and one that was amazingly light and refreshing. Not to mention our main courses and desserts were excellent too. Great food and great service.

The mussels and the duck were fantastic. Like best mussels I've ever had kind of fantastic. Staff is very friendly and atmosphere is just what the photos make it look like.

Great little eatery on the Main Street.

Amazing quality and execution. Fantastic tomato salad thanks to excellent tomatoes and seasoning; melt in your mouth halibut, great historic space and a service team that was warm, professional and in synch. If this restaurant were in even a mid-sized city, you’d never be able to get a reservation.

Octopus and halibut were great. Both the peaches salad and peaches dessert were bland, they were not well ripen - not at the same level than the other dishes.

The duck I ordered was delicious. At medium rare, it was perfectly cooked. There were many delicious flavors and textures on the plate. My personal preference would be for less side dishes but more of each. Our salad was delicious as was our drink. The service was prompt and friendly. We love this place! It has a cozy elegant, old-world feel.

Best restaurant in Ellsworth and the entire Bar Harbor area. Great ambiance. Superb service. Exceptional food. I had the halibut and my wife had the duck. Both were delicious. Our Manhattans were also delicious. I can’t recommend this place highly enough!

My husband and I have been dining at Provender for the past 2 years, and it has consistently exceeded our expectations. The food is absolutely delicious and always served with a smile, along with a genuine offer to accommodate any additional needs. The menu offers a wide variety of dishes, sure to please every palate. I highly recommend making a reservation to ensure you get a table- this place is popular for good reason!

I was a little disappointed in the food when I went there for lunch yesterday. I read such amazing reviews! I found that 2/3 of the dishes had a component that had too much salt. I love salt and well seasoned food, but unfortunately the amount of salt actually made it so that I mostly tasted salt (with the exception that the Brussel sprouts were not overly salted). The crab dip was too salty and the delicate flavor of the crab was overwhelmed. The cheeseburger was delicious, but the aoili sauce on it was too salty (it would have been really good otherwise) and was better if it was removed (every other component of the burger was well balanced and seasoned correctly).

The portions on the Brussel sprouts was small considering the price. The burger was good, but it was probably $4 more than it should have been. It was a good burger, but not better than other burgers (maybe even a little worst until the sauce was scraped off) but it was certainly more expensive.

I recently went to Timbers Kitchen in Bangor and got more food (funny enough brussel sprouts and a burger) and they executed their flavors better, the food was seasoned correctly and we paid less.

The benches we sat in were a little cramped, but overall I liked the atmosphere and the service was what you would expect (standard, but not exceptional).

Conclusion: execution errors on the seasoning and overpriced for what is achieved. I am not sure we will go a third time, as this was our second time with a similar experience.

One of the fancier restaurants in town.
We waited a long time for the food (could partially due to it's being a Friday night). It's overpriced for the amount, but we paid for quality not quantity, and the food tasted better than most restaurants we've tried nearby.
It's a little noisy, but the table was cozy enough so we can still talk normally.

I cannot say enough amazing things about this restaurant. The ambiance is cozy yet lively. The mussels were the best mussels I’ve ever had. The gnocchi melts in your mouth and pairs perfectly with the corn butter. The brussel sprouts were charred beautifully and had a balanced sweet yet acidic sauce. Chef Darren was incredibly generous and so personable, you can tell he puts love and joy into his creations. Provender is a MUST go if you are in the area, it’s worth going out of your way to experience.

Food and staff were incredible. We had just traveled all day and we knew we probably needed reservations to get in, but it was the only place open at that time so we gave it a shot. They made space for us and brought us in and the food was spectacular. Each one of us got something different and everything was delicious. On top of that, we were locked out of our Airbnb with no response from the Airbnb owner and the restaurant owner checked to see if he could help us out in anyway. Above and beyond kindness.

Dietary restrictions: Gluten-free options.
