We stopped for breakfast, best eggs ever! Both had 2 egg breakfast with bacon, toast, and home fries. A blueberry waffle to top it off.

We’ve been driven by A1 Diner countless times, and after reading about its long, rich history, finally decided to stop by on a recent trip to Acadia. The free street parking right outside the restaurant was an unexpected and pleasant surprise. Just as surprising was the overpriced and just-okay food.

I gotta say, both the inside and outside vibe of the place are a bit misaligned with the menu and food quality, and also the prices. We arrived at around noon and the menu unfortunately didn’t look any breakfast items as they stopped those at 11am. Instead, our options were burgers, sandwiches, and dinner plates. The menu was quite extensive and creative — it wasn’t your typical diner menu (Asian noodles?!) — but also, prices were steep for a place like this. A cheeseburger was $16+, with an extra $1 charge for tomato and onion. The sandwiches were more expensive and just included chips — fries were an up-charge. Honestly, just the prices alone were a turn off.

My burger — I ordered the one with brie and jam on it — was so underwhelming. Not even an exciting cheese like brie could save it. What a shame because it really did seem like such a cool spot!

The best thing about doing road trips in America is getting the opportunity to discover and try different foods at cool places like this. I really enjoyed the food!

I typically love dinners but I have to be honest the food was not good. I believe the grill is rarely cleaned

Cute little dinner! Good classic dinner food, with some extra surprises on the specials board. Only a 4 out of 5 because the fries were not crispy at all, they kind of tasted microwaved. But besides the fries everything else was delicious!!

I had heard that they had great coffee (like most diners do), so we stopped in just for coffee, having had breakfast down the street. It was good, but not great. The place is very old-school and a Gardiner landmark.

Wow! What an amazing lunch spot on the side of a bridge in Gardiner. This spot was recommended to us by a local business owner at Barn Boards & More and he was spot on! Also, go check them out - they have beautiful pieces! :) The A1 Diner is a cozy spot and was already well into their lunch crowd on a Saturday afternoon by 1pm but we were able to walk right in and take a seat at the counter, which was also mostly filled. My husband ordered the spicy shrimp and soba noodle bowl - what a perfect mix of flavors for a cooler fall afternoon! I ordered the poutine (how can you pass up on a diner-style poutine?!) but since I had contemplated SO many other things on the menu, I asked our waitress if I could add a side of the Korean bbq beef (from the sliders on the menu) that I could top the poutine with. It was busy in the diner so I was fine with the chef declining an addition to the meal, but they agreed and came to the counter after a quick amount of time with the huge bowl of poutine and side of Korean bbq beef and whoa! What an amazing combo! I assumed that we'd leave with leftovers but we couldn't stop eating once we started. Both the noodle dish and poutine were an amazing mashup of flavors and we left feeling more than satisfied between our wonderful waitress who hadn't stopped moving since the time we got there and the tasty food. And by the time we left, the place was still filled up with a short line forming at 2/2:30pm on a Saturday afternoon. There are so many amazing sounding and looking options on the menu and we will absolutely return. Thank you A1 Diner for an awesome first experience! We will be back! :)
