The Liberal Cup is a lively spot in Hallowell known for good pub food and a bustling atmosphere. The live music brings great energy, but it can get much too loud for a relaxing meal if you prefer quieter settings. The food was tasty, but service left a bit to be desired, it was just okay and not as attentive as I would have liked. If you’re looking for a happening place with music and energetic vibes, this is worth a try, but be prepared for the volume.

Short wait time, great service and excellent food. Prices are reasonable and. portions are generous.

The turkey dinner is my favorite, but when I had it recently the mashed potatoes had far too much garlic in them to the point of over powering the other food on the plate. Please use less garlic. Thanks!

The interior is dark wood throughout, with several different rooms and an outdoor area. We sat in a room with high backed wooden booths, which was separated from the bar, and so was probably a little quieter than the other area. We got soup and tacos which were both excellent. Salmon in the soup and fish in the tacos was very flavorful. Waitstaff were super nice, had lost of tattoos and were interesting looking people.

Very hit and miss...
Was in the area for a work trip, love trying local places when I travel. Came in a little before 7PM on a Wednesday evening, got seated fairly quickly... no issue there. Kind of dark inside, but the setup and decor were nice. My server was amazing, and the vibe from the staff as a whole was upbeat. Beer selection was good and I enjoyed my choices. I was relaxing a bit and snacking on my Appetizer, so I was in there about 15 minutes before I ordered my meal. I ordered the flat iron steak special, and it was the most disappointing part of the experience. Either it was one of the toughest steaks ever cooked, or I was given the dullest knife ever made. Flavor was fine, but it wasn't really enjoyable and I left most of it. The appetizer and sides were good, but the steak was disappointing. Like I said, some highs and lows, if I'm ever in the area again I'll give it another shot... but not the steak.

They get a little busy, but it’s well worth it. You have to get the Reuben!

Decent food, better drinks, but great service. Would recommend if you are a beer drinker. As solid food, but better drinks.

Not sure if today was an off day or if you were short staffed but to wait over 20 minutes to have your order taken is just not acceptable in my opinion. waitress seemed stressed and bothered. I will spend my money where I feel appreciated to give your establishment business. Went across the street and was immediately served. Not worth 1 star!!!
Menu is my only niggle. There just isn't good options like grilled chicken, pork chop or fish without pasta. Service was a little rushed, but ok. Beer and wine were 5*

Seems like a local favorite... Very lively around the bar, with people dancing to the live music.

Restaurantji Recommends
Just went for lunch, I ordered a Ruben Sandwich which was very good, the fries were delicious. I only ate half & had left left over garlic smashed potatoes. I got a cute little box for my left overs. We left & went to an antique store a couple doors down. We were there about 20 minutes & I realized I forgot my left overs. Went back
to the restaurant & asked if they had them & said they had thrown that out. It wasn’t that busy that they couldn’t of kept my left over for a few minutes.
Great atmosphere and service. Great selection of food and drinks.
Great place! Wonderful staff. I have some dietary restrictions (not allergies but strong preferences) the waitress helped me navigate quickly to find something I could eat. The seating was very unique and cozy. The food was great! My only dislike was that parking can be a hassle, no more than any other Main Street in Maine restaurant but be ready to walk.
Wow this place is so good. We had a waiter named conner and he must be a culinary wizard with the chefs and cooks. His recommendations on all were so great. He also was a good waiter. Would recommend this place totally worth it. We had fish and chips and the fish was so big. Many photos for scale and the haddock Napoleon makes you want to sell your car and eat here for a year.
We went for a family birthday , 6 of us. The food is so mediocre. The meat loaf dinner was cold. The chicken wrap was dry with little dressing. Another visit the fried shrimp was the "special". It was awful. The batter fell off and you are left with a tiny pink shrimp. Just go for the beer.
