I love the Liberal Cup! Great food and service, along with great pub fare. It's always worth a visit. I like eating food and drinking beer at The Cup.

Food and beer were both awesome. Stopped in on a whim and we were not disappointed. Will definitely be back in the future. We stopped in on Hallowell's Mardi Gras celebration. Really recommend the beer cheese soup, it's to die for.

We wanted to have dinner New Year's Eve.We arrived and there was another couple waiting at the hostess stand, they said they'd been waiting at least 8 min & no one had even greeted them. They & we were in a good mood, so we waited another 5 min, still no one. By now another couple arrives, another couple just left. My husband had to twice wander around to find someone, eventually asked the bartender to find someone to seat us. While we understand it is a busy night you should at least have staff sailing by to reassure we'd be attended to. Once the hostess arrived, we were all seated quickly. Once we were seated our waiter was awesome, very friendly & knowledgeable about the menu. Our food was lightning fast, we had the pork Oso Bucco & Fish & Chips, both were great (my roasted veggies could've been a bit more tender; they shouldn't crunch AND they were tasty, fingerling potatoes were YUM! I had the Egg Nog Martini, delicious. My husband had a craft beer (Bug Lighthouse), it was great. We had carrot cake, it was very good; if you catch when they have the Lemon Cello cake, get it, it is AWESOME. Everything seemed to be priced fairly; we each had 2 drinks plus dessert, and it was about $83. They were pre-bussing the tables which I love. They could use a manager, one of the waitresses kept complaining about guests, loudly, I've been a waitress so I understand & you vent out of earshot of guests. One of the servers was rummaging thru what appeared to be all paper trash, then rolled silverware w/no hand washing. Even if it is 100% paper, it does not look good and washing your hands an extra time or 2 wouldn't hurt.Restaurants everywhere: Please teach your staff to stop handling glasses by the rim of the glass where my mouth might go, even if you serve it with straws, please. I see this everywhere & it is very distasteful for the customer.Overall, it was a great night, and we'd go back with no concerns.

My first visit here. I must say I really enjoyed it. I had the Fried Haddock sandwich. It was totally awesome. I'm from Florida and this is probably my first Haddock sandwich. I would say it's just as good as grouper. I would totally recommend this place for the Haddock, service and atmosphere.

The Liberal Cup was the perfect place to entertain three co-workers after an all day, all staff meeting. The atmosphere at the Liberal Cup is down to earth; brick walls, live edge tables and benches. The placement of the tables makes each one feel private even with lots of other parties there. The wait staff is friendly, knowledgeable and efficient with service. All four of us throughly enjoyed our individual meals and the appetizers that we chose. In fact, everything was seasoned perfectly. The price is very fair, especially considering the portions and drinks. The Liberal Cup is an experience not to be missed, besides Hallowell, Maine is charming.Vegetarian options: They have lots of veggie dishes on the menu, so refreshing, given the anti veg pub fare so prevalent in today’s eateries.Dietary restrictions: I am gluten free and had no problem choosing an item straight from the menu without any modifications.Wheelchair accessibility: Very easy access for those needing assistance with mobility.

Excellent, so glad we stopped.Delicious food, large servings, great atmosphere/vibe, and sweet staff. If you follow me, you can probably tell that my southern taste buds are suffering in New England. Not here!! All the flavor of any good grandma's kitchen... And my goodness at these decadent dessert. Mmmm.10/10, highly recommend.

Absolutely love the atmosphere. Gives the old pub feel. I ordered a burger MedRare and it came well. I'm not one to complain much so I decided to eat it. It was incredibly salty. So salty in fact that I didn't finish it. Do not let this deter you the menu looked so good I will be back. Not to mention the atmosphere the beer and the service were great and the price is very reasonable.Parking: Best to park behind the building and walk the half block

Ordered the drunkin pot roast with fries and smashed vegetables. Fries were OK, but the pot roast was dry and almost inedible. It was busy and we were stuck in some table under a set of stairs. I just wasn't impressed and will not return. Server was pleasant but a little harried. Took a long time just to get a couple of beers.

Monday October 9 was the worse lunch experience! I ordered Turkey Soup, it was greasy, the turkey was cubed, some of the pressed meat had a brown film on it and was extremely salty! I sent the soup back & management did not visit the table. The waiter never refilled my water while my husband ate his Reuben sandwich without cheese, and without thousand island dressing!
