Our 36th Anniversary, second time we've dined at Ultramar. Everything was fine, we really enjoyed the food. Although the French fries with the lobster roll were pretty generic frozen crispy crinkles. I expected better. Still, that won't keep us from dining there again. I just won't get the fries

We enjoyed our dinner of a wedge salad and delicious bread. We both ordered scallops and a side of broccolini and smoked potato's. Everything was really good.

Another extraordinary dining experience at Ultramar in Kennebunkport. Between us we had the Grilled Branzino and the 8oz Filet, with sides of creamed spinach and roasted potatoes with a horseradish sauce (which could have been stronger for horseradish lovers). Everything was impeccably prepared and absolutely delicious.

Although the food is amazing, the location is along beautiful coastal Maine, and the restaurant atmosphere is very chic, you must be prepared when you sit down and order a nice bottle of wine or a cocktail that you will not be allowed to order oysters or an appetizer/starter until you have made your final meal selection. No exceptions and no discussion! Unfortunately, for those of us who dine out frequently and make our evenings an "experience" to be savored and enjoyed, this experience left us feeling rushed and frustrated. We were hoping to order a nice bottle of Sancerre and a dozen fresh oysters to enjoy while we perused the wonderful meal options on the menu with its various flavors and sauces. Instead the chef and restaurant will not allow a guest to do that. I will also note that the restaurant was not full and and tables remained open so it was not as if they needed to turn the table especially since this was the last reservation of the evening. I later expressed my dissatisfaction with one of the other wait staff who was not covering our section and they listened to my concerns, apologized and said they would bring this to the attention of management and the chef because this is a frequent complaint by customers who prefer a leisurely relaxed evening enjoying the view, a comprehensive cocktail and wine list as well as a multi-course delicious dinner. It is unfortunate that the art of hospitality and ensuring a phenomenal experience for customers is shrouded in strict rules that make a fine dining establishment like this feel more like your ordering from a fast food restaurant when you finish ordering and are asked to step aside followed by "next".........

Ultramar is a perfect special occasion place. Food, service, ambiance is wonderful. If you are fortunate enough to be seated by a window, the view is great and very Maine.

The meal and service was excellent. Oysters, appetizers and main courses were prepared perfectly. The restaurant has had a makeover and looks fantastic giving a speakeasy type vibe. Highly recommend

Beautiful restaurant with great views and and upscale, but relaxed, vibe! Mike, our server, made the evening exceptional with excellent menu suggestions and attentiveness. Great beverage and food selections, with lovely plating. Will definitely return!

We have visited countless times to the restaurants that has changed ownership multiple times. Ultramar was disappointing. We waited 40 minutes for bread. 30 minutes for drinks. Some food was decent. Hospitality was terrible. Waiter had too many tables. Table next to us had some issues as well. Shame we will not return.
