We brought my father here for his 80th birthday earlier this year. It had been on my list for a while but the menu prices were a little steep for my taste for a non-special occasion. It seemed a special event like a birthday was a good reason to try them out.

First the ambiance and decor is 5*! Just a gorgeous, warm, welcoming inviting interior. Perfect lighting, love the colors (I still want to know what green they are using!), gorgeous tilework and other finishes. The views are outstanding and there is simply not a bad seat in the house. The booths were incredibly comfortable.

Our server, Val, was fantastic. She was friendly, relaxed and attentive without being overbearing. The menu is simple but impressive. My father ordered the grilled halibut and was really impressed. My husband ordered grilled swordfish and was also really pleased. Both dishes were beautifully plated and came with a good selection of side sauces. I can't remember what sauce my Dad got but my husband got the lemon aoli with his swordfish and loved it. They both got the house smoked potatoes side and that is what I highly recommend to EVERYONE here because they are just amazing and like nothing you've ever tasted. Smoky and rich, they were incredible.

I got the crabcakes appetizer and the brussels sprouts as an entree. The crabcake (only 1 is included FWIW, so it was a little light to sub in as an entree) was excellent, but the ponzu sauce on the brussels sprouts made them inedible. My experience with ponzu at high end sushi restaurants in larger cities (Uchi, Uchiko -best sprouts in the world btw- Oiishi) is that the ponzu they make is a lite, citrusy affair with bonito flakes that would compliment the other light ingredients (mint, basil) in this dish wonderfully; the version that they serve is very heavy on the soy sauce and for me it absolutely ruined the dish. I get pretty excited about brussels sprouts, so I was admittedly extra disappointed.

Outside the sprouts, we had a good experience and my dad absolutely loved it!

The renovation of this restaurant was very well done and has given it a much warmer seaside feel. When we arrived the host let us know that we were the last seating of the night (7:15), so fair or not we felt a bit rushed. To her credit our waitress told us to take our time upon refilling our wine glasses. The food was very good, I would improve that to great if it weren't for the fact that the prices are on the high side. If you're staying in Kennebunkport, or more specifically Cape Porpoise you should definitely add this to your list.

A wide variety was ordered. All excellent. Special lamb shank was perfect as was the grilled salmon. Fennel sausage was liked by all as a starter as well as the salads-both chopped and Caesar. The creamed spinach was perfect as always. Sorry they are closing for the winter but will look forward to their starting up the spring dining season.

Food was overall good, but not outstanding. Atmosphere/view is excellent. Menu prices are a bit steep for the food/experience. 5 medium sized scallops for $52 - no side or vegetable included (they were described as large, but seemed pretty standard). I would go back for the view but perhaps not order as much next time (with tip our bill was $400 for 4 people).

Opentable Diner

My friend and I had the short ribs and although tasty they were tough expected them to be tender. My husband's halibut was good and my friends lobster spaghetti dish was good.

I hosted my team and spouses for the annual holiday dinner and selected this location with the expectation it would provide a positive experience. While I am local, the guests were not familiar with the Cape Porpoise area. Having visited the restaurant multiple times, I was confident the evening would go well. Initially, the experience was positive. Food service was slower than expected, which was understood and acceptable; however, the delay resulted in the group remaining after closing. A ride had been scheduled, so time was spent waiting in the front area of the restaurant. During this time, the manager appeared visibly frustrated and turned off the Christmas tree lights while photos were being taken. After explaining that the group was waiting for transportation, the lights were turned back on so the remaining guests could take photos. The situation was embarrassing and disappointing, particularly given how positively the restaurant, area, and ambiance had been described beforehand. The behavior was noticed and discussed by the entire group. When transportation arrived, the driver shared that earlier passengers had also mentioned concerns regarding management service. The hope is that this feedback is reviewed and addressed. A significant amount was spent, and service should reflect that investment. There are many dining options available, and while opening doors to the public is a choice, delivering respectful and professional service should be a priority.

Beautiful location built right on the pier in Kennebunkport with wonderful views. Varied menu from seafood options to meat and poultry. We ordered a variety of dishes each with unique local flavor and well presented. service is very good. The hotel concierge recommended this restaurant and it exceeded our expectations. Will definitely return and would recommend it to anyone visiting or local.

My husband and I attended this year's Prelude at Ultramar on December 7, 2025. The building was inviting, clean, well-lit and offered plenty of parking. This event was a buffet style brunch ar 2:30pm. We were escorted to our seats on time and had a great server. The buffet offered many choices of proteins, sides, appetizers and desserts. The only reason this review isn't a 5 is that the carving station was unattended when we were plating and the meats were cold. All in all, everything was delicious! We hope to return soon!

Food is amazing. Jennifer is a great server. Efficient with a great sense of humor. We have been several times for dinner and this was our 3rd visit for the buffet. Absolutely amazing.

Beautiful renovations, and we have always loved the view from this dining room. We went for the Prelude Brunch over Christmas time, and the buffet and raw bar they put out was awesome! Everything we ate was fresh and delicious. We will have to come back for their regular menu.

Lovely early dinner. Since we were early we got the fireside table which was especially nice on a cold and windy night.
