fast fresh and fun bakery right over the bridge from downtown portsmouth

i never knew the bread from supermarkets was all trash until i started going to Beach Pea - i havent bought bread from a supermarket in 6 years - this place can not be recommended enough

tons of specials / tons of great sandwiches/ cool staff (some of the time) / amazing bread! / decent coffee and white heron tea selections

the only possible drawback is it is so popular it is not uncommon to have to circle the building to find parking or have to navigate a long line indoors -

still though Beach Pea is the best bakery in the seacoast area - seriously

Love their their Monterey Jack and spinach croissants. Made for a beautiful breakfast for me. Being a vegetarian you don't find many places that cater to that.

We are so lucky to have this wonderful cafe in our neighborhood.
Best bakery in the area. Excellent sandwiches.

You can't go wrong with Beach Pea. The only negative is trying to decide what to have as everything is soooo good.

The best baked goods for miles around.

Generally considered to be the best bakery around. I am a fiend for baked goods, and have been to a legitimately concerning number of bakeries in my life, and I’ve never come across a comparable Fougasse.

Cute cafe with staff who are friendly, eager, and helpful. And the food was amazing!

Absolutely a gem for baked goods, hand crafted sandwiches, fantastic coffee, great New England atmosphere, seating inside and out with ample parking in beautiful Portsmouth area.

I just drove 1 hour to get there and 1 hour back. I have been to this establishment for years. My nephew worked here. I could never say enough good about it. However, today I was so disappointed. I drove there to get a cake for my daughter's birthday. The raspberry almond cake looked delicious. I waited in line for 10 minutes which was fine but when I got up to my turn I went to the desserts and the guy at the sandwich order line told me there was one line and I had to go see him. I told him I wanted some desserts. I inquired about the cake which they didn't have a 6 in. I could have gotten the 8 in for $72. but then I decided to get some random desserts. Probably equally the same amount of money spent or more. I also needed a few gluten free desserts.I needed to see what was available and the guy told me I would have to go back to the end of the line if I got out of line. How was I supposed to tell him what desserts I wanted when he was over on the other side? He did not offer to help me at all. I couldn't pinpoint what I wanted if he was in the other line, so it didn't make any sense to even order anything at this point. I told him to forget it and I left and drove an hour home. I will not recommend this place because of that and I will not be back. I work in a restaurant, have managed a restaurant, for many years and this guy today either had a bad day, or shouldn't be working with customer service. He just damaged your good name. Sorry I missed out and my plans ruined for sure.

Very dissatisfied. Not sure if quality was poor because of the busy time of day or what. Sandwich was very small with little filling. Beach pea used to serve all their sandwiches in two halves (almost like two mini sandwiches), the sandwich we opened was very small and on one slice of sliced bread. I have no issue paying for quality food, however, the total was $23 and I feel like we got half of what we normally get. Usually don’t leave bad reviews but this was not the beach pea we used to know.

What a great Bakery. Fresh breads, sandwiches of all kinds and delicious cakes. Staff are friendly and helpful. Almost the first stop every time we arrive from New Zealand. Thanks Team Beach Pea.

Tried to order 2 drinks from the seasonal menu ("chaider" and "autumn palmer") and the cashier gave us a blank stare. We repeated that we wanted the specials and she went and checked the special board then asked us what we wanted. We repeated we wanted the specials then she asked us how to make them. I don't know how to make the drinks, that's why I came to a place that knows how to make them.

Honestly just very confusing but the place is cute and the food is good.

Once we had decided that we wanted assorted mini desserts for our wedding, the Beach Pea team was a perfect option for us. Their team was easy to communicate with, they hosted us for a fun, thorough, and insightful, nevermind delicious tasting, allowing us to try all of their wonderful pastries, and talk through our options. The pastries on the day of the wedding were absolutely beautiful and delicious, and we’ve received compliments from our guests on every type of dessert we had. Plus, over the course of our wedding planning, we have loved stopping into the bakery for a treat and a sandwich. Thank you Beach Pea team for such a wonderful contribution to our wedding!
