Very accomodating and clearly marked items that are vegan or can be veganized.
Had such a good time, great food, fun atmosphere and great service. Don’t go to rush stay and enjoy the movie and popcorn it’s worth it!! 🤗

I don't understand the great reviews people have given this place. "Great service" my eye !! The only service there is , is they actually bring your food to the table. You have to go up to the register to order for youself and pay. We ordered some drinks 1st & when we paid by gift card, the cashier turned the computer tablet around & it has preset tip options starting at 20%. I ordered an $8.00 Can of stout beer and they expect me to leave at least an 20% tip ????? They don't even give you a glass to pour it in. And every time you go up to order something, you get the same routine. Cashier turns the computer register around, and there's your 20%, 25% or 30% tip options. How many times can you be expected to leave a tip in 1 visit to this place. No one comes to ask if the food is good or if you need anything. You are also required to clean up your own table and sort the cans in 1 bin, dishes in another, and waste in the trash can. I wouldn't mine doing that, but I'm not going to keep giving a tip for every transaction, & I'm certainly not going to give a tip several times to someone that doesn't do anything to earn it!!!!
Now let's talk about the music! Small place, extremely loud music. Could not have a converastion without leaning across the table and shouting to one another. The music was also a wierd combination of country style tunes with new age wierd crap thown in. Some of it was down right bizarre stuff. I won't even talk about the off key singing & bad singing voices.
So please, don't take my word for it. Go & check it yourself. We went on a Saturday evening when they open at 5:00 O'clock. Good luck !!

We have walked by Obscura many times. The steam punk, funky window decor looks so interesting. Finally stopped in for a quiet lunch just at opening (11:30) on Saturday. Pleasantly surprised! Initially it seemed a bit dark but as my eyes acclimated, I saw and enjoyed the well-appointed interior. Excellent vibe with the playlist and fun silent movie on the screen. It was clean and ready for business after a busy Friday night.
We had: French onion soupanini , vegetarian chili, cubanini, and tomato soup with cheesy panini. All were attractively served and ample.
The staff were really nice and helpful. I enjoyed hearing about the location having been the first Lamey-Wellehan shoe store and all the interesting history of the store.
For a tasty panini and a pleasant vibe - I recommend Cafe Obscura. Only detraction for me - the chairs were uncomfortable for me. The bench seating was better.

Just did Trivia the other night with some friends. The food was incredible, staff was friendly (though it was quite busy). The old photos and movies that okay above the bar give it a nice atmosphere. I would recommend going when it’s not busy (good luck lol), as the seating is limited. Will be going again!

The first couple of times we came here it was pretty nice. I have dietary restrictions that made it so that I had to customize my sandwich, including gluten free bread. The first time I ordered, they were friendly, then the next couple times they didn't seem as open to substitutions, which I would understand if that was the case at the start.
I did not appreciate them loudly repeating my substitutions for everyone to hear within the restaurant. Yes, I get that I asked for limited ingredients, but please have some respect and discretion when repeating them. The sandwich had 3 items on it, you didn't have to say it so loudly. We got our food to go and I felt so uncomfortable while waiting for our food. Please be more respectful of your customers.
Our last visit was with a giftcard, so we didn't spend our own money. Glad we did or I would have been more upset with the situation. The food was not worth the price. I mean, almost $35 for two sandwiches? This isn't a gourmet restaurant. You get chips or popcorn as a side. AND they upcharge you for gluten free bread. Ridiculous. I
don't expect us to visit again.

Nothing can be at the atmosphere of this place. And the food is so unique. I highly recommend this place to anyone living or visiting in the Lewiston area to give it a try, I'm pretty sure you won't be disappointed.

Wow!! We loved this place. Service was fantastic. They have games to play, so we played Exploding Kittens and ate popcorn while we waited for our food. Fried Pickle Pizza and Hot Dang pizza. Super good and the dough is from a local bread company. The atmosphere is great and they had a silent film playing.

Obscura is a truly magical place. The staff are so wonderfully kind and accessible, the food is out of this world and the ambience (a combination of art, vintage fixtures, and silent film projections over the bar) is both invigorating and calming. I hope that I'll find myself back in Maine sometime, because this place is worth revisiting.
Vegetarian options: Vegan options abound so I assume it's even simpler if you eat cheese and eggs.
