A local over in Bar Harbor encouraged us to visit this place on the "quiet side" of the island. We didn't have reservations and they were full, but the hostess and the bartender were as nice as could be and took care of us at the bar. We started with the best popovers we've ever had, huge, fluffy and accompanied by soft butter and fresh Maine strawberry and wild blueberry jam, respectively. My wife enjoyed tremendous fish tacos and I had the lobster popovers. Our food was incredible and Kip, our bartender, was incredibly pleasant and helpful. The view from the restaurant is fantastic as is the food and the staff.
Walk in to find two young staffers suffocating under dirty black masks in front of the entire floor of 50 plus employees and guests. This was the most demeaning, humiliating and forced control over innocent healthy people. We will never go back. Get educated Asticou. Or stick with Satan. Those poor kids.
I’m sorry to write this but I have to warn others. I ordered the crab cake appetizer as my main course, 3 crabcakes. When they arrived they were visually unappealing and unappetizing: 3 brown mounds all different. Looked like something else. Inside all bread and no crab. For $34 I should have gotten better. My boyfriend ordered the halibut. It was chewy not flaky. No bread at the table. The waiters were nice and I thought quite good. I do not recommend this restaurant. This was my first trip to Bar Harbor.
My husband was adamant that we have popovers while going around Acadia. My original plan was Jordan Pond House until I found out their reservation was not for an actual table at an actual time; It was a reservation to be on the waitlist. The Stadium is not reliable as to when or if they make popovers, so that left Asticou Restaurant at the Inn. The staff at Asticou replied to my emails promptly and were able to accommodate my allergies. I was able to make a reservation for a table via Resy and we were seated without any delays. The lobby of the Inn is rustic and charming and the big porch is pretty. They have a few parking lots, so we were able to park with ease. The Inn and restaurant are in Northeast Harbor, so not as crowded as the Park Loop area of Acadia. The Island Explorer runs near; if we had known, we could have taken the bus here. Our waiter, Ricardo, was wonderful and attentive. We were seated out on the covered porch which had a couple of patio heaters. I liked being out there with the fresh air and a good view of the yard. We decided to double down on popovers by ordering the Lobster Popover with sherry cream for lunch and a popover sundae for lunch-dessert. The Lobster Popover was served warm in a freshly made popover and both of thought it was absolutely delicious. For the sundae, the popover was still hot and the vanilla ice cream was cold (of course). Also delicious. All in all, a relaxing, delicious and enjoyable lunch in the National Park area.
Have not been to restaurant yet. Just commenting on the accommodations. Very old and antiquated. No AC....No TV.... No elevator....No Bellman to take up luggage. Bathrooms are tiny. There must be an elephant staying in the room above is because footfall is extremely heavy!! Not sure how this Inn stays in business....They said coffee is served in the lobby starting at 5:00AM.....we'll be out of her by 5:15 AM!
Lunch on the porch at the Asticou, it doesn't get any better than that. The views are exceptional (at the head of Northeast Harbor), the service is impeccable, and the food is marvelous, if a little pricey. But than again, the Asticou has served and upscale clientele for its whole history. I need a gluten free diet and they have that covered fully. The GF caprese pizza was wonderful and my wife enjoyed her chicken salad taco. Good herbs, quality meats, creative cooking...what's not to love! If you are on MDI, make a point to have lunch at the Asticou. Call ahead for a reservation; it is very busy in the high season.
We arrived just before opening so that we could get our first popovers and tea of the season (the first of many visits we are sure)! We watched the crew carry out and hang the "Asticou Inn" sign, and I smiled inside, knowing that this was the season start of many visits to the Asticou! We were seated and our waiter stated that we were the first customers of the season - wow, did we feel special! We of course had our tea and popovers, and we each got an appetizer. I got the Gulf Shrimp Shooters and my daughter had the Burrata Basil Caprese. Everything was delicious, and we did our best to finish everything - very filling and very, very good!!! The menu has some changes from last year, and I thought the offerings were even better than last year. Something for everyone - and the Staff (some new, some familiar) were all so cheery and welcoming. Can't wait to go back soon with my husband - visiting the Asticou has been a tradition for many years now, and it never disappoints!
I was hired to shoot a wedding at The Asticou this fall and it was such an amazing experience! I didn't want to leave at the end of the night. I'm not exaggerating when I say that If I get booked there again I will try to get a room of my own and make a weekend out of it! I've shot at many venues in the Bar Harbor/Acadia area and this is probably my favorite. The venue is gorgeous, the grounds are scenic, and the staff is wonderful. I was particularly smitten with the design of the reception hall. Beautiful paintings everywhere. I was able to get some amazing portraits of the bride and groom in the botanical garden across the street. You simply can't go wrong with The Asticou for a wedding, event, or for your vacation lodgings.
Exceptional. Exquisite. Excellent. This is a hidden treasure in Bar Harbor, we're so glad our host told us about this place! The view was remarkable, the food was delicious, the front desk was super friendly and the ambience was elegant. We had the Maple Crusted Salmon, the Tomato bisque and the popovers. It was a party in our mouths. We were sharing and the server actually had the fish plated individually for us, which we thought was a special touch. The flavors of the Salmon were so unique, and wonderful. The popovers were THE BEST (much better than Jordan pond) and served with fresh blueberry and strawberry jam.We recommend this place if you are in the area, everything was so delicious and the service was amazing.
We visited the Sticky in MI-September for a lunch of popovers and tea. As always the popovers were delicious. My wife and I had strawberry jam while my daughter and her boyfriend chose blueberry jam. We sat inside due to windy conditions, but from the deck where you can also dine there is a great view of the harbor. We also had very good service.

Popovers were dry. Service was bad. Meals arrived late because the waiter spent 15 minutes chatting with a customer about his guitar playing. Waste of time and money. We won’t be back.
We drove over from Sand Beach for lunch during the week and it was not crowded! We did have a reservation though which got us our choice of table. Popovers were double the size of Jordan Pond House! And the blueberry jam was delicious. We also had salad and sandwiches and everything was good. Servers were all very nice. If you’re in a hurry on your Acadia trip this might not be for you, but we had a great time and it gave us a chance to relax between hikes.
On Monday, September 12 my husband and I had a wonderful dinner at the Asticou Inn restaurant. We started off with a salad that was split into two plates and the staff also substituted the cheese for us (not a big blue cheese fan, so we swapped it for some cheddar). The Lobster popovers were stuffed with an abundance of Lobster but no vegetables. The chef made a nice, assorted vegetable plate that we shared (ala carte). The Asticou Inn restaurant has an excellent wine list to accompany their food. The staff was pleasant and made our evening enjoyable. A lot of locals where in the restaurant when we were dining and were enjoying just a plate of the Inn's delicious plain popovers!!
Vegetarian popover was fantastic! We all loved our meals, the chef was creative, yet we still had a "new england seashore" feel
People will talk about lobster chowder and popovers at another place in the area but you've got to have it here! Not only is the food to die for but the view is perfection. The service is also impeccable and the staff incredibly friendly. Oh and just to validate the choice to come Martha Stewart is on the board of ownership.
