The restaurant is a short drive from the wharf area of Portland and once you enter the place you know it’s family owned, it has that welcoming feel. The antipasto meat assortment was very good and the garlic bread was good. The service was excellent and our server was extremely attentive. Nice place to relax and enjoy dinner with family.

What a wonderful place to eat, I cannot say enough about how great the staff, service, atmosphere, and food were...the staff is just so inviting and service was great.the atmosphere was just soo cozy and you felt like you were at your friends for dinner... To top it off the food was just Devine. Fresh Italian bread with the finest Roasted garlic and olive oil to dip in. Then a fried mozzarella fritter with the freshest homemade sauce, next the perfect size side salad and creamy wild mushroom soup. Then onto the cudagra the entrées the finest ny sirloin strip with Roasted garlic and mushrooms and seafood scampi casserole with fresh haddock calamari and scallops and jumbo shrimp. Then sides of homemade pasta linguini again with the freshest homemade sauce the while the finest apple cider martinis kept coming. We were so full we purchased two jars of homemade sauce and cannolis and teramasu to go. If you leave here hungry it's your own fault...our new favorite go to...

I heard about Maria's Ristorante at 1335 Congress St in Portland while listening to my favorite talk show host. He was interviewing Anthony Napolitano, Chef of Maria's. We were headed to Portland from Massachusetts for a few days to meet my sister so I looked on line and drove over to check it out. I called to see if we needed a reservation for that night. They recommended we do. It was getting busy fast. The food was excellent. I had veal saltimboca and my husband had the Haddock parmigiana. We also ordered the mussels in a scampi sauce for an appetizer. More than enough for two people. My sister and brother-in-law ordered the calamari as their appetizer. My sister had the shrimp portofino but I don't remember what my brother-in-law had. We all thoroughly enjoyed out meals. We also tried the meat balls which were excellent and the cannolis for dessert. The atmosphere was delightful, the service excellent, a good sized glass of wine and you could actually have a nice conversation without shouting. That's important. They are certainly doing everything right to be in a family business for so many years. Next time I drive up to Portland, we will definitely stop in for dinner. Thank you Anthony for making our night special.

The waitress, Kipp, recommended the baked haddock with crabmeat stuffing. My friend and I took her advice. The haddock was fresh and flaky. It was served with homemade pasta with marinara sauce. I ate every bite. For dessert Sue and I split a piece of lemonicello cake with blueberries. Lemon and blueberries are always a good combination. The cake was moist, flavorful and had a cream frosting that complimented it. Maria's also sells their own marinara sauce. It was less expensive than the grocery store. I stopped making my own sauce because theirs is so good. I will definitely keep Maria's on my list.

Five Star-Italian Dinning with traditional Italian dishes that are deliciously scrumptious! The decor is pleasingly comfortable. I highly recommend this fine establishment with first class service, helpful and patient. Don’t miss this experience!

We’ve driven by Maria’s many times over the years but had never eaten there. Several friends had told us that the food was real Italian. What a WONDERFUL surprise! It was THE best Italian food that we’ve had, hands down. There were only two waitresses to serve a full house. Somehow they were able to maintain a high level of service despite that limitation. They never stopped running, gave timely service and did it all with a smile. No small accomplishment! Our bruschetta appetizer and salad were both nicely presented and tasteful. My wife had the eggplant parmigiana, as she often does, and I had the calimari marina. Both were excellent and ample portions, served hot. She said that her parmigiana was the absolute best that she has ever had. Coming from my trusted eggplant parmigiana connoisseur that is quite an endorsement! My calimari was tender and plentifully. The marinara sauce brought back memories of Italy. Both of our meals were served with homemade pasta that was perfect. The homemade lemon cake had a tangy zest and was a fine end to the evening. Maria’s is now our go to restaurant when in Portland. Do yourselves a favor and plan a visit. You will not be disappointed!

I've been here a few times. Their spaghetti and meatballs is okay, but the meatballs were too salty for me. Their chicken parmesan is unlike any chicken parmesan I've ever had, and it lacked flavor. Their Italian bread is average. I do like their marinara sauce. Nice atmosphere, good service, good Chianti.

We were in town and decided to get Italian food. My wife had the Haddock Florentine and I had the spaghetti and meatballs. The pasta was Al denti and the meatballs and sauce were excellent. Kit was our wait person and gave us excellent service as well. I highly recommend it.

Portland is a great place but I urge you to look beyond the port area. Doing some reading we found an article about Maria's and went. Not disappointed at all!! The veal dish was excellent as was the halibut Milanese. Apps, dessert was also fantastic. The Lemoncello.Cake exceptional. Take home some of their homemade sauces. The Fra Diavlo is great!! A place we will always go back to!!
