Grocery is still decent but generally does not carry too much more than a Hannaford etc. Prepared foods and bakery are a fraction of what they used to be. Rarely shop here now because of how limited their selection is
I've shopped in many Whole Foods across the country. I have family in Portland, Maine, and I visit this Whole Foods on a frequent basis. It is large, well-stocked, and most of all, the different food stations are amazing. Made to order items at the food stations are terrific and make for a nice meal. The hot bar is also excellent. Tasty, excellent food. I look forward to frequenting the store on a regular basis.
Really large, well stocked Whole Foods with great local produce and friendly staff. All the essential vegan items and more!
Coffee is decent; the employees are great!
We don’t live close to a Whole Foods, so while visiting Portland, we had to stop in and see what we’ve been missing! The hot food bar was great. We got a variety of vegan goodies, such as jicama fries, Cajun chicken nuggets, teriyaki chicken nuggets, butternut squash, mushrooms and some other yummy things I can’t remember right now. They had a soup bar, which had at least two vegan soups and a salad bar, that looked better than any salad bar I’ve ever seen. Everything looked fresh and I never saw any empty containers, so they must keep up with refilling it well. They also had vegan pizza options. Prior to geeking out at the prepared food bars, we walked around the store, grabbed a few produce items for our hotel and just browsed prices and their selection. The store was very busy but had lots of helpful employees milling around and was clean. It was a fun, little addition to our trip and my husband made the comment, “We need to decide where to move next by how close we can live to a Whole Foods.” So I think that speaks for itself :)
We used to shop here regularly, but in the last year a large percentage of what we came here for is no longer available. (1) While fruit is pretty varied, the range of vegetables is modest; (2) The flower section has been dumbed down a lot. It's fine if you want a composed bouquet (which I never buy), but otherwise is mostly roses, tulips and alstromeria; (3) The deli now has less of a range of options than Hannaford's; and (4) the prepared salad table is at least half pasta salads at 250 calories a serving. This used to be a place to get things unavailable elsewhere in Portland. Some still exist (the breads are good, for instance, though the range seems to have narrowed), but not enough to motivate me to make the trip nearly as often as I used to. I am disappointed in the store's decline.
Just ok. Not bad. Inside the grocery store.
The various food bars available at Whole Foods look like something out of Fine Dining Magazine but the looks are all they have. Everything we tried tasted like cardboard and while it looked like it should have been scrumptious, they were devoid of flavor and cold falafel really doesn't taste good at all. I can go into depth here but what's the point? The presentation was overwhelming with quantity and choices bit it was not good to eat and isn't that what it's all about anyway? My recommendation to the chef would be to try everything before you put it out for consumption. The area was clean and well kept so that was never an issue and after eating we did shop in the store for things that you don't normally find in regular grocery stores. I recommend shopping there but avoiding the salad bars completely.
We regretfully chose Whole Foods Market for lunch while visiting a couple of the local micro breweries. There is not much to really say, the food was not good, the tables were not cleaned and dirty, the garbage cans were full and overflowing, etc. etc. We were not familiar with the area, but there has to be much better lunch choices in the area, my bad for not investigating more.
After a 2.5 hour drive, we were ready to grocery shop. This and Tjs were primary reasons we came to town. I've been to a lot of Whole Foods and even worked as a temp in their corporate headquarters. It is one of the nicest stores of theirs I have ever been in. The diverse staff was great. The selection and quality was outstanding. My mom is an Amazon Prime member and John from New Hampshire was top notch. He helped us walk through the entire process. What a friendly and dedicated employee to commute each day! He deserves kudos. What a great store. Yay!

I have to travel out of state for a whole foods experience. Of course, I look forward to shopping for groceries but I always forget how great the prepared food options are. So many vegan items on the hot/cold bar as well as every prepared section.
Its whole foods, huge selection of foods/health products. Prices are a tad bit high on some things compared to other places but its amazing. ❤️
Had the tofu burrito here for dinner once while travelling through Portland. It was really good and I would recommend it. Also had the detox juice which was good. Overall, it was a little over-priced but it was an okay option while travelling.
The salad and hot bars at the Portland Whole Foods kept me satisfied for days during and after my stay. While I wanted to frequent as many locally owned cafes and restaurants as possible, the options at the salad and hot bars were too tempting to pass up. There were not may vegan dessert options like at other Whole Foods, but the two cupcakes offered in the bakery were decent. There were not as many vegan chocolates and shelved foods as I would have liked, but those salad and hot bars made up for that while travelling. There was also vegan sushi, pizza, and soup that I did not try.
One of the best Whole Foods I've been too! I feel like the prepared food section had more vegan options then 'regular'! Got a great peice of Vegan Key Lime pie and freshed squeezed OJ that we got to squeeze ourselves which my daughter thought was great!
