We had high hopes for this place for breakfast, I came all the way from NJ and wanted to give it a try, it was such a nice atmosphere and the waitress was nice as well, however the food was not up to par , I ordered a corn beef hash that was burnt to the crisp and all I tasted was fire , the orange juice was good , my husband had shrimp jambalaya with crawfish inside but the flavor was very odd, he always finishes his food and mine , maybe I’ll try to go back in the future and try another dish

We popped in on a Saturday morning and were seated at the counter, which offered a great view of the cooking line and the staff's banter—exactly what you'd expect at a quaint diner. We ordered an omelet and a burger (I know, not traditional) and opted for home fries with each dish. The potatoes were delicious, with the perfect amount of Cajun spice and cooked perfectly crisp. The burger was tasty, though I would have liked a bit more Cajun seasoning on it. The omelet was average. We wished the sausage had been Cajun or Andouille to provide more of that Louisiana flair. The service was quick and super friendly. Prices were reasonable, ranging from $15 to $16, with an extra $3 for coffee. The coffee was fresh, and you will want refills of that mug! We recommend stopping by and giving it a try—there's something for everyone.
Food was delicious, especially the blueberry cornbread. Thank you for your kindness!

The pancakes and cornbread are delicious! The rest of our order was also good but those stand out.
Happy to state that The Bayou’s pancakes beat that of Clifton Street bakery (NYC) and the cornbread beats Sylvia’s (Harlem)

Such a funky, fun and delicious breakfast spot! Not a lot of places in Maine to get good southern food, and this place really delivers. Cornbread and grits are a must!

Great brunch option with spicy Cajun food available. Feels a bit like a hole-in-the-wall DIY vibe but the wait staff and stewards are friendly and engaging. Brunch was good and saw thst the griddle pancakes are huge - perhaps I'll have to give them a try next time!

What an incredible send off from Portland Maine. Everything we got was seriously fantastic. The grits were cooked right, the cornbread was FABULOUS (get the blueberry), and the corned beef hash was excellent. Not to mention they had a hot sauce that I can’t stop thinking about, Lost Woods.
Seriously great to find some authentic bayou cooking in Maine.

I'm a local. Owner or manager must've thought I was a tourist...came over to our table while on phone, "What? You're calling about turning off our electricity?!" Thinking this might be a way to get a bigger TIP. I've been a server/waitress and I'm currently a manager. Look, that's not the way to get a bigger tip. She also charged us at least $12 more onto the original bill. My friend who joined us, actually paid for it & I felt bad cause you guys really ripped her off. $75 for what! Two plates of food & a small stack of pancakes. Shame.
At Woodfords corner.

The staff was extremely nice!! I had the breakfast sandwich(very good) with home fries (extremely burnt) & a side of hash (very very dry). My bf had a 4 egg omelet with bacon & cheese, a glass of milk & ice tea...Bill was $53 ??? Most expensive breakfast I've had in years for the quality.

It really does feel (and taste) like New Orleans. I'm not sure there is a more satisfying breakfast spot in all of Portland. Try the Cajun Scramble and add a blueberry pancake if you have room.
