The fried clams were heavily breaded, mushy and greasy. I got them to go and they were stuffed in the box. The onion rings were greasy and not cooked. I sent them a message on face book and they got back and said they would mail a gift card which I did not ask for. They never did send one. The point is the food was awful.

This place is an amazing find. Now having to eat GF it is very hard to find any sort of GF fried food of any kind especially seafood. Too our surprise they can make anything GF. They have GF buns and batter and a dedicated drink fryer! My son had their Jumbo lobster roll that came wIth fries his only complaint "it was not big enough " growing 20 yr old. I had the Bob and Betty Scallop and fried lobster tail. I was worried about the tail because lobster is already so good on its own. A bit of clarified butter and you are all set! Their batter is very light which did not take away from the lobster tail at all! The scallops were cooked perfectly. Their fries were really good. My best friend had the Bob and Betty with the calamari and Scallops she loved everything. We both agree their GF batter is he light and does not take away from the Seafood at all. The staff was great. Friendly and personable and were more then happy to give suggestions and advise. We will definitely be back!

Worth the visit. Great combinations for seafood. Yummy French fries. And for those that do not care for a seafood in your group they have burgers, hotdogs and grilled cheese. Local Maine root soda, draft beer, hard cider. I had the Bob and Betty with calamari and scallops which were fried gluten free in a dedicated fryer. It came with a side of fries and coleslaw. The coleslaw for me was a little on the Onion flavored side but not bad. Daily specials like fish and chips. My friend had fried lobster, I was skeptical but it was really good. They have take out if you are driving in through. We will be back

Clam strip basket in a fast food type location and environment for $18.95? A very small cup of watery clam chowder for $5.95? No thank you. I can't figure out why this place is so well reviewed. It seems like a real ripoff.

Awesome little find - glad this Maine institution is in Portland. We are GF and they have great gluten free fried clams and calamari... and fried lobster tails! They keep a dedicated GF fryolator and the service is great.

Great fried clams! Really. And the lobster roll with fries and a cup of chowder for $20 was a deal. Beer and wine No fuss place. A genuine Maine place to visit Their place in Kittery is the original and a little bigger. Located near the outlets

Nice people. Great food. I got the jumbo Lobster hot with butter sauce and shared with my wife. Sister-in-law got the scallop roll. All very good.

Came here for a snack before hitting up Eventide. It's a small shack, or should I say "hut", with often design and a huge menu, filled with every seafood option you could want. We shared the seafood basket junior with fried clam strips, whole clams, and fish (plus fries of course). It was the perfect size for the three of us to have a snack and the local hot sauce (Lost Woods) and tartar sauce made for some yummy dipping. This food was clearly freshly fried. Highly recommend a visit.

If you're traveling to Maine, this is a must stop on the way in to start the trip. Perfect, unfussy lobster roll and crispy fries. You may just need to stop on the way out too.

Like many fried clam fans, we have always enjoyed Bob's Clam Hut in Kittery. We're happy they opened a branch in Portland, Although parking can be a problem, the menu, food and service are comparable and delicious.
