I came here with my fiancée for our anniversary and had a great time. I had the best steak I have ever tasted and my fiancée had the chicken special. The servers were attentive and knowledgeable and the atmosphere was warm and comfortable.

Great wine, cocktails and small plates. The entree was excellent but a little short on veg. Service was exceptional with great conversation and excellent suggestions. We will definitely return!!

I have never had a bad meal or experience at Chaval! The food is consistently delicious (I always get the Patatas Bravas and the deviled eggs) but we often get a little bit of everything for the table. The staff are so kind, welcoming, and make excellent recommendations. Thank you to the team at Chaval for making my most recent visit on my birthday such a treat :)

This was, hands-down, the BEST dining experience I have EVER had in a restaurant. I have very many dietary restrictions (Vegan, GF, allergic to soy, sesame, garlic,+more). The kitchen was very happy to work with me and accommodate my needs. I have a passion for plant-based culinary artistry, and these guys really know what they're doing. I was dining alone for my birthday and the staff here really took amazing care of me. Do yourself a favor and stop in here while you're in Portland, you won't regret it. I can't wait to stop in again!! Thanks so much for making my trip 10x better!!

Delicious good, relaxed vibe, amazing service

Delicious food! Nice staff. The only problem is that there were lots of Loud people and it was hard to have a conversation in your own table, since the restaurant is small

You can look far and wide, but you just can't beat this restaurant. My wife and I always sit at the bar. The bartenders are fun to engage with and take good care of us. Our only complaint is that there is so much good to choose from on the menu that we always leave there feeling over-stuffed.

I have been to Chaval three times now. Each time I have been the food has been excellent and the service has matched. They hold themselves to a high standard with an ever changing menu filled with delicious options. The price point may be a little high for some people but the quality of the food, the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff more than justifies the price. If you are looking for a special place in Portland for a date or just a nice dinner Chaval is the place to go.

First time eating at this hidden gem, and it's my new favorite place!

Does not get any better than this.

Went here for a quiet weeknight date night. The food was phenomenal, no bad bites were had. My husband had a borderline religious experience with the whiskey sour featuring a fancy bacon garnish. And the service was super attentive but not in an annoying way.

However as a Mainer currently enduring the darkest days of winter (and as a person who is just always cold) I mostly have to shout out the *temperature control!* There were heaters in both dining rooms and even the bathroom. I’ve had many a dinner made slightly less nice by frigid winds blowing in, or poorly heated dining areas, but I was so dang comfy all through my meal.

My wife and I recently made our second visit to Chaval, both were fantastic meals. All the servers we encountered were kind and knowledgeable, true professionals. We found ourselves scraping each plate that came out to get every bit of the dish. Great cocktail selection as well!

Thought it was a bit overpriced compared to other restaurants in Portland and what you get (quality and quantity wise).

I was especially surprised at the $12 brioche when I asked for bread. Not very authentic given the culinary focus of the restaurant but also don’t bother with bread if go!

Vibe is nice, drinks were good, there’s a lot of vegetarian options but small portions. Cheese plate was only two cheeses. There was a cake cutting fee of $9 per person, which was higher than expected. But service was nice.

Brought some friends here after some great experiences as a couple. I think our server was Scott, but whoever recommended some amaro this evening to a group of 4 was stellar. Staff was brilliant all around and the food was amazing. It’s not often you can order a tomahawk and be truly impressed with the cook temp, sides, sauces, value and presentation.

Don’t skip this place. The service alone is worth it but the food is stellar.
