Always a winner! Cozy and delicious - mussels preparation and desserts change weekly so we enjoyed a passion fruit crème brûlée which was subtle and delicious.
I don't know....i think David's used to be a lot better. We've eaten here a ton of times and usually loved it but tonight the food was so-so. The service was fine but pretty slow (we didn't mind but it could have been quicker) and the entrees were just not the usual excellent food we've been used to at David's. Maybe it was an off night but we probably won't be rushing back.
Delicious food options and wine selection. Intimate environment. Attentive, timely and friendly service. Overall a big wow! Highly recommend you try Davis 388. Just down from the beach as well so it's a perfect location.
Great meal with visiting guests. Really enjoyed ourselves. Delicious food, great service. Table was a little small in a small space, but we managed. Fun night.
Came here to celebrate a big birthday for our mom and we just had the nicest evening! Our server Carolyn took great care of us and was so adorable and funny. Food was outstanding and service overall was terrific. Love having this "special occasion" place in Portland!
Always a great experience. Fabulous food, good wine, excellent service! David's 388, or as we refer to it—Little David's—is on our regular rotation.
As usual, the food was excellent. We chose David's 388 to take advantage of Maine's Lobster Week. The special 3-course meal was prepared well and delicious. The service was attentive but not overbearing and the speed of the meal was very smooth and comfortable. We have enjoyed this restaurant several times and will continue to visit.
This is one of our favorite area restaurants. We were there for the first night of lobster week and the dishes were delicious. We had a couple of other dishes that were less successful. For whatever reason, the chef had a very heavy hand with the cracked pepper to the point that the tuna crudo and cacio e pepe risotto were completely overwhelmed. Since there is cracked pepper on the table, it would have been preferable to lighten that up a bit and not ruin the fresh and high quality ingredients in the dishes.
We loved sitting at the counter so that we could watch the chefs in action. Our server was attentive, and the food was delicious. We will return often!
We were in Maine for a week and I really wanted to try David 388 as the menu looked outstanding. I had the Seafood papardelle and my husband had the duck breast. Both were so wonderful. Drinks were great also and our server was very helpful and answered all our questions. Would definitely recommend.

We found the Monument square location to be far superior. This location is an exce llent neighborhood restaurant way better than the norm, but Monument Square is world class.
We have wanted to try Davids 388 and had high expectations. The decor is neighborhood friendly and the service was excellent and the drinks are fairly priced. We sat at the kitchen counter and enjoyed chatting with the chef. We had 2 apps and one, the special fish cakes was outstanding the other just ok, slathered in an Asian hot sauce. The halibut special was also swimming in the same hot sauce so you couldn't taste the fish. My wife had the lamb and it was tough. Kudos to the staff as they took it back and the replacement was excellent. We will try Davids again but will ask them to hold the hot sauce.
Great experience very good service amazing food and presentation gluten free friendly all around a excellent experience
The food flavors were excellent and two out of three dinners, seafood tortellini, meet my companions' approval. My dinner, a haddock dish, arrived late, dry, and an absurdly small portion. A $28 dollars fee was ridiculous for the dish served. I could have returned and would have waited 1/2 hour for the replacement. The wine cost was eliminated from the bill. It was a an extremely disappointing experience for the three of us.
We've dined at David's in Portland and David's 388 - which was one of the first restaurants we ate at before moving to the area. We had a wonderful dinner at David's 388 recently. It was our first visit back in a while and we were so glad we went. We had the strawberry and spinach salad and potstickers for appetizers. Both were delicious and a generous but not oversized portion. We then both had the filet, which was tasty and tender and followed that with the citrus creme brulee special of the night. The staff is very accommodating and friendly. We'll be back.
