We thoroughly enjoyed the ambiance at David's 388, second only to the food! My husband had filet mignon and was blown away at the tenderness (just pulled apart with a bread knife--no steak knife needed!) We look forward to going back next time we are in South Portland.

We had drinks, appetizers, entrees and dessert, and all were presented well and delicious. Tuna crudo, beef carpaccio, salmon, haddock, crème brûlée and cheesecake all as good if not better than any place on either side of the bridge. Great spot!

No better place for three college roommates from 50 years ago to gather to celebrate our friendship. This neighborhood bistro only serves good times and great food. The wines are also a value, not marked up as in other restaurants.

We have been coming to Davids regularly over the last 10 years or so. It used to be one of our favorites. We love the cozy ambience, the ease of find street parking and the excelllent service, all without crossing the bridge into Portland. Last night's dinner was disappointing, however. I had the filet mignon, which was just Ok. The portion size was about a 1/3 of what was served in the past, and served over very ordinary mashed potatoes. Steamed broccoli on the side. The relish that was served alongside the beef was very good. My husband had the Za'atar seared tuna. The tuna did not have much flavor, did not have the usual sear and was a much reduced portion size to the past. This was also served with ordinary steamed broccoli. The forbidden rice also not very special. I do appreciate that their prices haven't spiked in recent years, and I guess there are are sacrifices for keeping the prices a little lower than others.

We've never had a bad meal here, nor have we ever needed a box. Last night we had a salmon and a haddock. Both were cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious. Also had a pear mocktail and decadent desserts. Probably my favorite restaurant in the Portland area. Service was also attentive but not obtrusive. David's at Monument Square is also very good but a bit bigger so seems a bit louder.

A bit on the small side, but a very enjoyable place for dinner. Price can be daunting, but the quality of the food makes up for it. Staff are fantastic, and hardly any wait at all!
I don't know....i think David's used to be a lot better. We've eaten here a ton of times and usually loved it but tonight the food was so-so. The service was fine but pretty slow (we didn't mind but it could have been quicker) and the entrees were just not the usual excellent food we've been used to at David's. Maybe it was an off night but we probably won't be rushing back.

We had the best experience at David’s 388! We were able to book a table a few hours in advance on a weeknight. The food, service, and atmosphere was amazing. I am gluten free and there were many menu and dessert options I was able to chose from! Highly recommend!!
