“Munjoy Hill Tavern was the perfect dive bar we were in search of in Portland. We came in later on a Friday night and were able to sit at the bar and enjoy $3 Miller High Life, something every dive should have. The bartender was friendly and let us take over the TouchTunes, to which we discovered we had 50 credits. Needless to say we took full advantage. The bar also has live music on other nights and a full back patio deck. Overall, great Portland dive!“

Forest Gardens Bar • $

“Cash only, but they have an ATM. Food is delicious and more affordable than a lot of places in the area. Everyone behind the bar has always been very friendly, starting with Rick who retired a few years and carrying on with the new bartenders. I also love that it’s been around since the 1930s, as one of the first bars around to reopen after prohibition. It’s definitely a neighborhood gem!“

“Commercial Street Pub is the kind of place that feels like home—if your home had better beer, great music, and a bartender who could probably run the country if she felt like it. John and Tracy, the dynamic duo running the joint, are like your fun aunt and uncle at a wedding—but with better booze and slightly more control over the jukebox. John knows everyone’s name within 10 minutes, whether you told him or not. Tracy will invite you over for good food and a party within the hour. Then there’s Emily, the bartender. A legend. She pours drinks with the grace of a ballerina and the side-eye of someone who has seen things. Ask her for a drink and she'll make you the best one you've ever had. She’s got a sixth sense for knowing exactly what drink you need—even before you do. The regulars are great too. All in all, Commercial Street Pub is the kind of place where everybody makes it fun. The vibe is exactly what you want in a neighborhood pub: easygoing, cheerful, and just the right amount of quirky. One visit and you’ll understand why people keep coming back. If you’re looking for a pub with charm, great company, and the kind of staff that makes you feel like family, Commercial Street Pub is the place to be. Don’t be surprised if you leave with a smile—and maybe a story or two to tell. 10/10 would drink again.“

“Found this place down a small side street in the heart of Portland and decided to stop in for Lunch. We did not want to eat lobster and seafood and this turned out to be a fantastic option. Super friendly, great simple food, good prices. Respectable selection of alcohol.

No complaints, can't think of anything negative at all even. Only wish is that it would be nice if they had a kids menu.“

“This is among the most confusing dive bars in (greater) Portland. It's effectively on the SMCC campus, but is in absolutely no apparent way a "college bar." Its general vibe is a perpetually dark, quiet, locals-only sort of dive that makes considerably more sense as a community staple in a working class neighborhood, yet it's effectively on the campus of an immaculate community college and mere steps from postcard-worthy views and a beach teeming with affluent tourists flocking to Air BnBs in some of the area's most expensive real estate. Is it the "last great holdout" for "real locals?" Is it an investor's elaborate ruse to keep the lot's property value down? Will you get 86'd if you try to order an imported beer? Who knows! Karaoke on Wednesdays.“
