Unfortunately, we did not have a great experience. We did not have an opportunity to try the food because the service was poor. We were not greeted at the door but everyone after us were. We stood waiting for someone to acknowledge us for several minutes before a waitress came over and aggressively asked, “how many??”. After, she showed us to our seats and left menus we just sat there while they served the people who came after us. I refuse to support a business that treats their customers in a poor manner. However, I do recommend the Black Cow. The food was delicious and customer service was great!

Simple setup, but really great chowder. This is not a tourist gimmick. The clam chowder and seafood chowder were perfect. An additional shining star? The grilled cheese.

Yum yum mussels!!!! Did not try any of the fantastic sounding chowders, but the mussels were great, simple broth, perfrctly steamed, mussels were certainly the sfar of the dish. My husband and I had an order each!

I got the small chowder + sandwich lunch special. The chowder was super flavorful. My sandwich was the lobster BLT. I wish they would have mentioned somewhere on the menu that they lather the sandwich with mayo, because I am not a fan of it… I opted to sub chips for onion rings, which were disappointing. Personally, I don’t think the half sandwich/chowder combo has good value, so I wouldn’t order it again based on that criteria, but I’d definitely come back for just the chowder! Service was quick & friendly.

Just a couple blocks from our cruise dock so we walked down on the suggestion of a local and were not disappointed. The lobster stew was tasty and chock full of lobster. The lobster roll was excellent; well seasoned and a generous portion. The blueberry pop was fun and the blueberry pie a perfect ending to a great meal!

I ordered the haddock chowder. It was a very generous portion for a large bowl. It was very tasty and fresh. The waitress provided prompt service and was attentive even though it was busy. My wife and I always enjoy having lunch here every time we visit Old Port. The parking can be a little challenging on the weekend or holiday.

Perfect stop in Portland! We had the Corn and Chicken chowder along with a grilled cheese that melted in your mouth. My girlfriend has the lobster grilled cheese and loved it! Recommended stop!

Best lobster roll I had in Maine, great taste and you get a ton of lobster. Also the clam chowder was fantastic. A must stop.

Great Super Seafood chowder - even a medium size portion was large enough. And it was full of seafood, rarely any piece of potato. Maine blueberry pie was just delicious too! Great patio seating, with heaters that gave super nice vibe.

Gilbert’s Chowder House is absolutely amazing! I had the lobster roll — packed full of fresh, tender lobster — and the seafood chowder, which was loaded with lobster, shrimp, and haddock. Every bite was rich, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. Honestly, the best chowder I’ve ever eaten!

And I have to mention our server, Amanda — she was the most amazing server I’ve ever had! Friendly, attentive, and made our dining experience even better. Highly recommend this place!

My wife and I spent 12 minutes sitting at a table waiting for someone to even come over and greet us. The doorman was nice and the atmosphere seemed nice but the serving staff had much to be desired. They made eyes several times but not a one of them came over to take our order. There were 6 wait staff that I could count and 4 tables of people. I'd of liked to try the food but the wait staff were too busy laughing and talking to each other.....
