Maiz was at the Kittery Mayfest and I was so excited to see they had not one but TWO vegan frozen empanada options. After buying the Vegan Cheese, Mushroom, and Sweet Plantain option I ended up going back about half an hour later to grab the Bean as well. These are frozen, pre-cooked, and DELICIOUS.
Will have to make it up to Portland soon to eat from the restaurant.
The food is delicious and staff was well aware of what is vegan and vegan friendly on the menu. She explained the options to us and we were really happy with the food. It’s also a really cute place and with a casual vibe.
I've eaten arepas in Bogotá, Colombia; Spain, Miami, Chicago, even in Minnessota. Thus, I was excited to find them in Portland.Unfortunately, these arepas fell short of my expectations.
While the arepas were generously filled with meat, the overall taste was distinctly different from what I'm accustomed to. If you're new to arepas, you might enjoy them, but for seasoned arepa lovers, this place might disappoint.
