Fun friendly crowd.
I come to Matthews every time I’m in Maine and absolutely love the atmosphere and friendly regulars. Definitely an old school dive bar with a juke box and lots of fun games, TVs, and upstairs area for warm weather. It feels homey and charming. Shoutout to Courtney for making me laugh non stop. Love the banter and can’t wait to be back in August! ❤️🥰
Has clean bathrooms and sweet beer pong arcade game. 5 stars
My ice little place friendly people
Portland's oldest pube
I like a good dive bar but this place was too much for me. Started well with a friendly greeting and good service but had to leave after one of the other patrons wouldn’t stop staring at me like he wanted to stab me, even as I moved around the venue. American Horror Story creepy vibes with the few ageing customers the place has doing bad karaoke and emptier than it should be for a Saturday night.
Stumbled in accidentally with my girlfriend to watch my Mets lose. Top notch service, top notch bartender. Seems old but has character. It’s the type of place Jim would go have a beer after a rough day on the boat fishing for lobsta’.

Legit super old school bar, good price on drinks and random level of service, if you are under 40 and can’t appreciate a funky old bar then go somewhere else

It's a dive bar. A rough one. I'm sure it contains tons of charm for people in the area.

We stopped in for beers. Other than this being the oldest bar in Portland, it looks like a run-down casino/dive bar and smells like your grandmother's house. It might be a check box for you if you like old things, but nothing much to get excited about here. That was also the sentiment of the bartender when asked about the place and its history.

This place sucks. The “bar crawl” they hosted for st Patrick’s day was a total ripoff as well.
For a dive bar , an awesome place, regulars are friendly , drinks are cold and delicious, get area to walk to and from, definitely a place to visit and have a few drinks with family and friends. Recommend 5 stars.
