Wonderful noodles, excellent ingredients, reasonable price and very nice staff — you can’t go wrong here!

Noodle Love is a "have it your way" Asian noodle restaurant. You order at the counter and can take your food to a table or to go. There are half a dozen pre-set options, but you can also create exactly what you want, ingredient by ingredient. The basic choice is either a broth base (three choices) or a sauce (again, several options). I had a rice noodle bowl with coconut curry broth, plus pork dumplings, stewed pork, bean sprouts, scallions and cilantro. There are also options for Korean, Thai or Szechuan additions. Sides are also available, but hardly necessary. The soup portions are generous and, unusual for me, I could not quite finish mine. I enjoyed the bowl, but can't say it was exceptional. The dumplings were past their prime and fell apart and the pork also seemed overcooked. Spices were surprisingly muted (though there are spicier options than the one I choice) and the result was more hearty than distinctive. Bottom line, I did not find the food as good as, say, the many places in Portland serving good pho, and there are some informal Latin American and Japanese restaurants which are a bit better, but all these options are also a bit more expensive. Because every order is assembled individually, item by item, this is not an especially fast line (and there was a line at noon on a Friday). The staff are exceptionally friendly and very willing to give advice. If you are coming by car, parking is on street and can be challenging.
