My in-laws live in Portland, ME, and we're there several times a year. Last trip I went to Onggi twice a day. I'm Asian-American, and we live in Los Angeles, so the flavors are familiar, but they were done at such a high level. The kimchi spritz was a total revelation in complex flavor - so so good! All the coffee and tea drinks were amazing, the Hojicha latte, the matcha black sesame mochi. I love the fermentation crocks, the unique and special condiments, both local like blueberry vinegar and from Asia. I want to visit Onggi on every trip.

pleasantly surprised with the amount of genuine japanese goods! the matcha is LEGIT. not as fresh as the stuff i've had in japan by case of proximity, but pretty darn close doe portland maine. lovely low stimulating environment with primarily asian goods. minimal indoor, but plenty of outdoor seating

One of the best spots in town to grab a pastry and drink. I ordered the matcha black sesame mochi which was to die for. I also ordered a Hojicha latte with a black sesame foam. Both were perfect, the service was quick and helpful. There is also a cute shop in the front of the store and the coffee is in the back.

The black sesame hojicha is a must try drink. Their menu is simple but of very high quality. Their selection of fermented/pickled goods from the market was so fun! This is a great stop for a gift for friends, a good drink, and a variety of different items you never knew you’d want!

Adorable shop with fermented goods in the front and a matcha cafe in the back. The atmosphere is special and I felt transported to Japan as soon as I walked in. Staff was very helpful. Tried the miso maple cold foam cold brew and it was great. Also had the matcha butter mochi which was perfectly chewy (butter mochi is hard to come by outside Hawaii and California so I was shocked). Highly recommend this place!!!

I got the miso scallion scone and miso maple cold brew. The scone was so favor full and tasty. It was soft on the inside with a nice crust. Truly heaven. The miso maple cold brew was delightful. Will definitely need to return. The kimchi corn souffle looked good.
