Absolutely loved it ! Friendly staff, amazing food, booze and ambience. And the oysters….AMAZING!
The Maine Burger is truly the best burger I’ve ever had. The fried green beans were awesome too! The bartenders are so fun and friendly… this was our favorite stop in Portland!
The Parmesan truffle fries are the best fries I've ever had, considering I live in the same town as duck fat, that's a pretty large feat. Good job! Burgers are really nice as well and the price is pretty acceptable for downtown portland standards. The place is also just a sweet atmosphere and the drink options are decent. But seriously, their fresh fries are ridiculously good.
HORRIFIC FOOD POISONING!!!!! ordered their chicken / pork tacos and developed the worst food poisoning of my life. Would highly recommend finding an alternative place to eat. The food wasn't even that good!
This is the best bar to just chill and hang!!! Great music and the bartenders are attentive and amazing. There is a great selection of craft beers, but you can also get some tasty cocktails!!! There is limited food menu too, but the vibe here is awesome!
Such a great beer selection on tap! Although there's no written explanation of the different beers, the staff is extremely helpful and very knowledgeable. I am normally a fruity beer drinker, and he recommended Allagashi Pick Your Own and JamPacked Just Peachy. Both were awesome. I like the vibe. Really laid back. It's the kind of place I'd hang out at regularly if I lived in Portland.
Over two dozen craft brews on tap. We stumbled onto this place while waiting for our dinner reservations and would come here for drinks in the area. This bar has food, beer and cocktails but it seems more of a place to hang out and have a few beers. Had a great IPA and would definitely come here again if I were in the area.
BEST truffle fries ever!! Great burgers and salad. Nice selection of beers and cocktails. Those guys and gals know what they are doing!
Excellent beer selection with great food. The lobster roll was delicious.
Great dive type bar tucked away in an alley. With low ceilings, a great beer list and pretty good food, this place is a nice surprise.
Great lobster roll! Wasn't expecting anything special but it exceeded expectations. Also ordered the truffle fries and a beer and it was great. Another person ordered the chicken sandwich and they said it was something they would definitely order again! 10 out of 10. Make sure you go to the bar to order so you don't have to wait.
Terrible service, maybe it's better if you know the bartender. We waited patiently from seats at the bar and watched then serve people around us finally we just left.
The fried green beans make a visit worth it! The burger was good, but not great. Plenty of outside seating and very cozy inside.
I was leery of Mash Tun based off some of the other reviews but I was so curious because passing by it looked like a good time with the patrons outside, the menu sounded good and has kind of a dive - old school look to it. Some of my heeding was founded though. We came in for a quick drink while waiting for seating at another restaurant. It was a nice crowd both inside and out so we walked all the way in, to the end of the counter. One of the staff was standing there looking at the TV and a couple other workers were moving about doing their own thing. We waited a minute or two and another person waiting also, spoke to the guy just standing there asking about a seat. He turns to her and bluntly tells her, 'you have to talk to the bartender about that.' I thought, "sit anywhere you like" or "Or someone will help you soon." worked well enough. I suppose at Mash Tun it's a bit different. He went on to mention that he's just the cook. Fair enough being that the bar and the kitchen are all right there together, that's fine but to me a little effort when dealing with the customers goes a long way. I only had one drink here so I can't comment on too much more than witnessing that interaction and brief interactions with the actual bartender since he was quite busy. The ambience was about what I expected with the music and look. I like old look of it with lots of wood. My impressions of Mash Tun are that its the kinda place that you don't come looking have positive interactions. That's weird to me seeing as how Portland is so touristy but hey. I'd add this as a potential bar hop stop then move on.
Walked in expecting nothing seeing its a crappy little bar. Surprise! The food is tremendous. Got the shrimp tacos and the wife ordered the chicken sandwich. Both were great! The bartender was very friendly. I do recommend sitting at the bar or the service maybe lacking seeing they do not have a wait staff.
