Stopped in on a whim while exploring Portland. A great place to find unique pottery from local artists who make their items in studio.
My sister and I brought my mom here for a Mother’s Day weekend private lesson. The staff at Portland pottery was so accommodating with our reservation to allow us to bring along my 9 month old and daughters age 7&4. They had their own hand building time while we worked on the wheel. Our instructor Allegra was so kind and helpful. Her demonstration was great and we were each able to build 3+ pieces during our class time. Would 1000% love to come back again because we had a wonderful time!
They do NOT think about people who work on the weekdays and want to buy clay on the weekends. Both locations are either closed or don't sell clay on the weekend. Ridiculous!
Stopped here just to look around for Christmas shopping and ended up browsing for an hour or so. The studio is considerably bigger than it looks from the outside, their Christmas sale had a variety of pieces from a variety of artists, and there were even some plates with cheese and crackers, and Christmas mints. The people working there were friendly and helpful, wrapped our purchases for us, and gave us some info about classes. I will definitely be returning!Parking is on-street and spaces are quite limited.
We had the most wonderful time taking a pottery class on our trip to Maine! Karen was the best instructor anyone could ask for, she was so helpful, kind, patient (if you were with us you’d know) and encouraging. We loved learning about the studio and getting to understand the process all together. We couldn’t ask for a better experience, so thankful for Karen and the studio!
They just have an all around great team. Bob the Baker is excellent, Buna the chef can rock a sandwich, and Karen in pottery is knowledgeable. Overall one of my favorite haunts in the East End.
Terrific little bakery with deli offerings combined with a gift shop selling pottery that is made next door. So you can wander around the store while you wait for your order. We stopped by after lunch at The Shop (oyster bar across the street - also highly recommend) and ordered dessert. They were all fantastic. In retrospect, I wish we ordered more to take with us. Also bought a bowl with a beautiful matte glaze. Staff was friendly.
Everything looks delicious so it was hard to choose what to order. I don’t think you can go wrong with anything you settle on. We had bacon, egg on muffins except we substituted their biscuits for the muffins and I think they may want to make it this way for everyone bc it was so good! So was their blueberry muffin and peanut butter cookie. You order and eat. They had both indoor and outdoor seating. We enjoyed the outdoor search with our dog. She was even offered some water.
Wow, didn't realise how attached I was to this place until I was on a Safari to Kenya and was really craving the grilled chicken panini ??? what a delight to be
My mom, daughter-in-law and I wandered in to the Portland Pottery Cafe while some in our party visited a distillery across the road. The pottery pieces were interesting. The cafe was great. It offered soup and sandwiches with inventive twists that were excellent. I had the Figgy Piggy which was a grilled ham and cheese and fig jam. Tasty! The rest of our party joined us and everyone enjoyed their sandwiches. A great place.

Didn't take a class but they were selling the artists work! We were able to walk in and I bought the the cutest handmade pot, which came with a plant! In love!!! So happy to support local art/local business!
We went in for a party, but there were just two of us. We were from out of town and there for my husbands birthday and wanted to do something special. Karen greeted us as we came in with a warm smile and tons of excitement. We had a wonderful class and had a ton of fun. Karen was upbeat the whole time, and did a nice balance of letting is do our own thing while directing us to be better. We made a bunch of bowls, cups and even a bud vase and a plate. She then helped us pick out the glazes, and we were on our way.Later, she packed everything up and shipped it to us at home. We just got it, and it was like Christmas! Everything was so beautiful. We just wish we lived in Portland so we could take more classes!
I last visited this place a few years ago and waxed poetic about their caramel marble cake. I wasn't so enchanted this time -- the Paris-Brest pastry was dismal. A true Paris-Brest is made with a rich praline mousseline cream, and while there are some variations of it, theirs had an overly-sweet chocolate pudding filling with some whipped cream that was a letdown and definitely not worth the outrageous $9.00. They should include the prices of pastries in their display case so customers are aware and/or don't have to ask how much something is.
Great food, friendly people, Beautiful pottery!
