I really like this place. The servers are always beyond friendly and considerate. The food is great! I get the tamales and the churros are borderline illegal on how good they are! Sweet place.

10/10!!!!!!!
My husband & I had take the 1.5 hour drive to Portland for an appoinment.
We came across this wonderful place while searching for a delicious lunch.
Wonderful, superb authentic food!
we tried the house made jalepeno poppers (ginormous & fresh) to start. Husband had the pork chimichanga (pork cooked to perfection) & I had to try the fried green tomato tacos. Blown away by all the flavors!
Abby was our awesome server who served up a wonderfully funny sense of humor!
Be careful though, she BITES!!! 😂

Wonderful tortilla soup, extremely fresh side salads, and some of the best pan-fried jalapeños I've had that I haven't made myself. The value for the freshness and speed in which our order was ready for pick-up was incredible, as was the kindness of your impeccably-dressed front-of-house (Hot Topic for the WIN!) Many thanks for the very healing and appreciated dinner from two under-the-weather Midwesterners. ♡

Great spot with good food and very good service. The chile rellenos, chicken mole, and anything with carne asada have been my faves. Bartenders are always solid, and the drinks are reasonably priced, if a little on the sweet side. Unfortunately a few negatives with my most recent visit:

Chips and salsa are no longer complimentary, and what more, they're $6.25. Gotta add that extra quarter just so the customers know you're serious.

They also wouldn't honor an online coupon I had because it wasn't on paper... even though the code was a scannable QR code that had been emailed to me. Checkmate, I guess, to those without a printer.

Parking can be tough in this area, particularly on weekends, but otherwise it's in a good spot. The location has some cool outdoor seating, and the inside is a little bit dated, but is full of light, conversation, and whatever is playing above the bar.

Didn't get half my order and the phone number doesn't work so I can't get a refund

Yesterday, I was walking through Portland and found myself hungrier than usual. I saw El Corazon and decided to stop there for some Mexican food. Usually, I'll research a place before trying but not today.
I visited during the off-peak time of around 1:30 pm and was promptly greeted by an energetic hostess. She invited me to sit anywhere I wanted and even mentioned that I may want to select a bigger table since it was not a busy time! Nice, huh? She answered several questions about the menu and never winced. She was gracious throughout and aimed to please, exactly what you'd want in a hostess but seldom get.

The meal was a customized quesadilla which was delicious. They even stocked a non-alcoholic beer! Heineken, no less.
The pricing was reasonable, also...not cheap but what you'd expect to pay in the City or perhaps just a little less.

Thanks to El Corazon, I had a super lunch experience. Thank you!

My wife and I stopped in in mid-October during a trip to Maine. Mid afternoon during the week. Food was cold, service was begrudging, as if the waiter couldn't be bothered, even though we were one of the few people in there. On top of it, i had asked for some chips in the beginning like Mexican restaurants around the country routinely bring to your table, not knowing, or being told, there would be a charge for it. When the bill comes, I see they charged $6 for a basket of chips. NEVER going back, and recommend others take heed....

Definitely the best Mexican spot in the area. Having lived in San Diego for years, it's hard to find authentic flavors around here. This place does not disappoint. Some of the best enchiladas and refried beans I've ever had.
