This is a tidy, no nonsense/no pretense eatery that provides excellent Salvadoran, Mexican, and Puerto Rican dishes. This is not some Gringo interpretation of these cuisines, nor is it an attempt to adapt them to local tastes. This is the real deal, authentic food prepared well by people who grew up with it.I’ve eaten there twice, and am heading back there tonight to try something else.My first time there I had the Montañero, a massive plate of meat, rice, beans, patacones (green plantain sliced sideways, fried, flattened, and fried again), salad and probably more that I am forgetting. It was a daunting task, but I did finish it.The second time I had mofongo, Puerto Rico’s entry into the pantheon of “heart attack on a plate” cuisine. It’s basically smashed green plantains mixed with bits of chicharrone (fried pork belly) and meat of your choice and much more. I had been craving it for years and was too intimidated to try fixing myself. I thoroughly enjoy it, and will order it again, as soon as I’ve run through the many other things on the menu that I just have to try first. The atmosphere is fairly plain and stark, but very clean and tidy. Anyone who has eaten it NYC inexpensive Hispanic restaurants will be right at home.I really hope that you will give this place a try, and I don’t think you will regret it.

This place is the best for authentic Latin food in the area. The staff is so kind and helpful. The food is fantastic, fresh, and hot. Not to mention an excellent value too. Really can't be beat. They are very accommodating to dietary restrictions as well. You won't be disappointed!

Great Salvadoran and Mexican options. Tasty and generous portions. Homemade juices. Friendly staff and easy to find Congress street location.
Came because it was voted highly for best burrito on a local radio station. While the food is made by sweet ladies you can entertain yourself with many tv's playing all sorts of shows Ordered Beef burrito: the burrito was mostly rice and left something to be desired Mufongo: unique similar to eating mashed sweet potatoes with dry pernil, would recommend getting more sauce/lime/salsa to add rich complexity to dish

I've eaten here a few times now, both take out and sit in and it's always delicious. The Mofungo is probably my favorite menu item, but don't sleep on the Empanadas either!
The best empanadas I ever had! Great authentic food!

We were a little skeptical of this restaurant when considering options, but were we ever glad we gave it a try. You can tell the owner and staff pour their heart and souls into what they do and it was absolutely awesome food. Some of the best mofongo I’ve ever had. Will definitely not be shy about giving them a try next time we are in town.
Always an awesome place to grab a bite! Especially as a Mexican/American living in Portland. If you ever want bomb tacos Sal de la Tierra is where it’s at!
