For years, this places always had and kept room for walk-ins. I'd been a fan of this place for more than a decade. No more. They've gone completely pretentious and only do reservations now...and with no modern reservation system beyond calling in, there no way to find out how far out, if at all, that one can dine here anymore. I didn't even see the owners there as they once were.
I will not be visiting anymore, and I am sad about it.

My husband and I came to Schulte & Herr for our second time last week remembering to bring a bottle of wine this time, and once again the aroma widened my eyes as soon as the door opened. The owners’ welcoming gestures fit in perfectly with the place’s charming atmosphere, and those already dining all gave us friendly smiles as if to warn us of the magical experience we had waiting before us. Between the stories on the walls, the excellent song selections, and of course the to-die-for plates, this place is not one to forget. My husband brought one of our favorite wines with a picture of a colorful goat on the label, and behind us was an almost identical drawing but in black and white. Later in conversation we had looked up our Chinese zodiacs, and funny to find out, mine was the goat. In this moment I intuitively felt its symbolic presence: in that this place is a home where peace and kindness grows, and most importantly, a place people can depend on to bring them the most heartwarming dining experience.

Holy cannoli, is this food good. We opened with the potato pancakes, which were crispy AND fluffy. Flavors were delicate but delicious, and so well complimented by the applesauce. I got the souerbraten with cabbage and dumplings. Who knew that cabbage could be that good? With apple no less? Consider my mind blown like a whistle. The meat was so tender and the sauce it was served with brought me to my knees.
My girlfriend got the schweisenscnitzel with potato gratin and mushroom gravy. I may not know how to spell German food, but damn do I know how to eat it. The cutlet was off the chain crispy, but not heavy, and the gravy complimented it perfectly.
Service was friendly and attentive. Restaurant was a bit hot, but well worth it. I would drag myself through the flames of hell for another bite.

Best German food I have had outside of Germany. Had a generous serving of Spaetzle that came with cucumber salad. Restaurant owner and employees were very friendly. Prices were very fair. You can bring your own beer too.
