Loud, small portion dinners and mediocre food. One dinner did not make it to the table till the others foosd was almost cold. Will not go again
We had an amazing dinner as always when we visit Solo Italiano, simply outstanding! Chef Paolo is so creative and his staff is always on point. After three courses we were left speechless!!! We can't wait to come back!!!
The pasta dishes were expertly conceived and perfectly executed. The waitstaff was knowledgeable and helpful. It's reassuring that there are restaurants that can maintain such a high standard for such a long period, as we've still never had a disappointing meal at Solo Italiano.
Our dinner at Solo was amazing! The ambience is beautiful the staff was very experienced. The food was exceptional! We had the linguini and clam sauce and the halibut both were delicious. The portions are on the smaller side but well worth it. I would definitely go back.
Food is incredible!! Lovely setting. Expensive meal but ok because special occasion. Wouldn't go on a regular basis.
Very good food and honest Italian cooking. Excellent wine list that us user friendly. Only quibble is that the pasta portions are relatively tiny given the pricing. They could be more generous.
Got the Pesto dish the Chef is famous for. It was hands down the best Pesto I have ever had (and I have eaten pesto in numerous northern Italian cities). We also had the raw tuna appetizer and it was great too. This is such a good meal that I would get on a plane and fly back to Portland, ME just to have.
First time here and I'll definitely be back. Great food and great service. Loved it! Thank you!
We drive from Boston at least once a week to dine at Solo Italiano. Paulo and his team are fantastic in every way. Amazing food, beautiful restaurant and the staff is top notch. A++
Our first night in Portland we were highly recommended this restaurant. This being the last stop on a New England driving holiday we had sampled so many different restaurants and service along the way. We were very excited about Solo and got there early to see if our reservation could be moved any earlier. The gentleman on the host stand was really rude and snotty. No warm welcome. We completely understood that it wasn't possible to be seated earlier, we took that chance, but his attitude was unnecessary. Interestingly when we returned there were many empty tables. Perhaps they did not want to overwhelm the kitchen. He seated us 15 minutes early however only offered us bar seating if we took it. We agreed. Our waitress at the bar was lovely and knowledgeable. The food came out quickly and whilst it was good I have eaten better Italian food elsewhere with handmade pasta (which is solo's usp). It's incredibly over priced too. We are big foodies and eat all over the world including Italy and we did not think it was worth the amount on the final check. If you are vegetarian there are also not enough options. Perhaps the attitude of the maitre dee sullied our overall experience. We had better meals in Portland.

The food is good, however, the portions are incredibly small. The pasta portion is comparable to that of a children's meal and the lamb chops though very flavorful unfortunately have fat than meat :(
Awesome
We love Sole Italiano. Last night we took friends from the midwest there for dinner. We lucked out and got Debbie for our server, whom we've had previously. She is one of the best, if not the best server at Sole. She knows the subtleties of the menu and was able to guide our guests to try a couple of selections that were out of their comfort zone, but turned out to be super enjoyable. Getting to enjoy Sole in the summer is challenging with all the tourists, so we were super excited to get a reservation on fairly short notice.
the overall experience was good. there are so many restaurants in Portland - just hard to give it a better review. It was good.. Expensive for what you got for sure...
One of our favorites in Portland. We brought friends from Florida and had an impeccable experience, from service to food. Always bring our out of town friends here. No one goes away without praise of the food!
